Description
The Master is a character introduced in the first season of the Duel Masters anime, serving as the leader of the Temple, an organization within the Junior Duelist Center. Very little is known about his background or true identity, as he consistently appears wearing a long, black, hooded robe that conceals his face, adding an air of mystery and authority. In later series, specifically Duel Masters Charge and Duel Masters Cross, he is revealed as an evil duelist and the main antagonist, acting as the nemesis of Shobu Kirifuda's father, Shori Kirifuda. He is also the one who controls Yuu, his younger sister, from the beginning. His personality is characterized by a calculating and ruthless demeanor, driven by a desire for power and control over the world of dueling. His primary motivation appears to be the pursuit of ultimate mastery and dominance, often using underhanded methods to achieve his goals. In the story, he functions as a high-ranking authority figure within the Temple, initially presented as a mysterious overseer before his antagonistic nature fully emerges. He has a significant relationship with Shori Kirifuda, whom he views as a primary obstacle, and through his actions, he indirectly shapes Shobu's journey as a duelist. His role evolves from a shadowy leader to a direct and formidable foe, orchestrating events that threaten the balance between the human world and the creature world. His abilities are centered around advanced dueling skill, particularly in the Darkness and Water civilizations, and he is shown to possess the capacity to manipulate others and exert control over powerful creatures. His development is marked by a gradual reveal of his true nature and motives, moving from a seemingly neutral figure to a clear antagonist, though his ultimate fate or any redemption arc is not extensively documented.
