Description
C-14, also known as Android 14, is a fictional character from the 1992 animated film Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13!. He is a mechanical life form created by the supercomputer of the deceased Dr. Gero, the mastermind behind the Red Ribbon Army's android projects. The central computer continued its creator's vendetta against the Saiyan warrior Goku and completed three new models specifically designed to eliminate him, with C-14 being one of these units.
In terms of physical appearance, C-14 is the largest and most physically imposing of the three androids. He stands at an impressive 229 centimeters tall and weighs 154 kilograms. His skin has a distinctive silver or gray tone, and he has brown eyes, which differs from many other androids created by Gero who typically have blue eyes. He wears a long green skirt-like garment, a brown arm guard and belt combination, large brown gloves, and yellow-and-black boots. His design is said to have a resemblance to a Native American aesthetic.
C-14 is characterized by his almost complete silence. In the original Japanese version of the film, he is entirely mute with the sole exception of uttering the name "Son Goku". He displays very little to no emotion, maintaining a cold and unsmiling demeanor throughout his appearance. This silence makes him a stark contrast to his companions, the more talkative and leader-like C-13 and the eccentric, hat-wearing C-15. Despite his lack of dialogue, his actions show him to be a focused and relentless combatant who follows his programming without question.
The primary motivation for C-14, being a creation of Dr. Gero's supercomputer, is simply the completion of his programmed objective: the termination of Goku. He, along with C-15, is dispatched to locate Goku and engage him in battle. They are the first to confront the hero and his allies, showing no interest in anything other than their mission and destroying anyone who interferes.
Within the story of the film, C-14 serves as a significant initial threat. He and C-15 attack Goku and his family while they are in West City, forcing Goku and the fighter Trunks to lead the androids to an isolated glacial region to prevent civilian casualties. In this new battlefield, C-14 demonstrates his immense strength, easily overpowering Goku in his normal state. When the future warrior Trunks attempts to intervene, C-14 pairs up with C-15 to battle him. Even after C-13 arrives to face Goku directly, C-14 continues his assault on Trunks. He is depicted as a formidable wall that Trunks cannot overcome in his base form, to the point where Trunks' powerful sword strikes have no effect, and C-14 can predict his movements as if having prior data on his fighting style.
The key relationship for C-14 is with his companion androids. He operates as part of a trio, working in seamless coordination with C-13 and C-15. While C-13 appears to be the leader and the most strategically minded, C-14 acts as the silent, powerful enforcer. He often fights in tandem with C-15, using combination attacks against their enemies. However, his most crucial relationship is functional rather than personal; his ultimate purpose is to serve as a component for C-13. After C-14 is destroyed in battle, his computer chips and power supply are absorbed by C-13, allowing his partner to transform into the far more powerful Super C-13. In this sense, C-14's defeat is an integral part of the primary villain's evolution.
In terms of character development, C-14 remains static, as is typical for a mechanical antagonist. He is introduced as a powerful, silent threat, and he ends the film the same way, being destroyed by a Super Saiyan. His lack of dialogue and personality is a defining trait, and he does not undergo any change or reveal hidden depths. After his destruction, his remains are scavenged, underscoring his role as a tool rather than an individual.
Notable abilities showcased by C-14 include incredible physical strength and durability, enough to overpower both a base-level Goku and a base-level Trunks. He possesses the standard abilities common to most androids, such as the power to fly without using ki and to fire various energy blasts. He demonstrates a particular technique where he and C-15 combine their energy spheres into a single, massive projectile to attack their targets. He also exhibits a form of predictive analysis, which allows him to anticipate Trunks' attacks. In the Funimation English dub, he is given the line "Little boys shouldn't play with knives" when he effortlessly stops Trunks' sword, adding a rare moment of characterization. Ultimately, his defeat comes only when Trunks transforms into a Super Saiyan, a power level that surpasses his own capabilities, leading to him being sliced in half by the younger warrior's blade.
