Description
Borjack is the primary antagonist of the 1993 film Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound. He is depicted as the powerful and ruthless leader of an alien warrior race known as the Hera race, often referred to as the Galaxy Soldiers. His background is rooted in universal conquest. Centuries before the events of the film, Borjack and his crew ravaged the galaxy until they were deemed too dangerous to roam freely. In response, the four Kais of the universe combined their power to seal Borjack and his followers inside a star, trapping them for thousands of years. This imprisonment serves as the foundational event of his character, defining him as an ancient evil that was only contained, not defeated. His release is not an accident but a direct consequence of the main Dragon Ball Z timeline. When the villain Cell self-destructed on King Kai's planet, he killed King Kai and caused the planet's destruction. This catastrophic event weakened the seal on the star, finally allowing Borjack to break free, hence the film's subtitle, "Bojack Unbound".

In terms of personality, Borjack is a cruel, arrogant, and bloodthirsty tyrant. He is driven by a singular motivation: to resume his conquest of the universe and crush any who would oppose him. Upon his release, he immediately tracks the powerful energy signatures from the recent Cell Games to Earth, seeing the planet's strongest fighters as the only potential obstacles to his galactic ambition. He is sadistic, expressing clear enjoyment in dominating his victims and toying with them before delivering a killing blow. True to the Japanese word his name is derived from, "bōjakubujin," which means arrogance or audacity, Borjack possesses an immense overconfidence in his own power. He genuinely believes he is unbeatable, a belief that persists even when he is clearly outmatched. Furthermore, Borjack has no genuine loyalty to his subordinates. He views his crew, including the faithful Zangya, as disposable tools. He demonstrates this by ruthlessly killing Zangya without hesitation when her fear becomes inconvenient, using her as a shield to launch a surprise attack at his enemy.

Borjack's role in the story is that of a world-invading threat who hijacks an intergalactic martial arts tournament on Earth. He and his crew replace the tournament's alien contestants, systematically attacking the Z-Fighters to eliminate all resistance. His key relationships are primarily with his four henchmen: the sword-wielding Gokua, the large and powerful Bido, the psychic Bujin, and the sole female warrior Zangya. They function as his elite forces, working together to overwhelm opponents. On the opposing side, his main adversary is Son Gohan. Borjack initially sees Gohan as a minor annoyance, then a worthy challenge, and finally a terrifying threat. He also holds a contemptuous gratitude toward Goku, acknowledging that Goku's actions against Cell led to his freedom. He plans to repay this favor by killing Gohan while telling him to send his regards to his dead father. His other key opponents include Future Trunks, whom he ambushes and defeats, Vegeta, who he overpowers after a brief fight, and Piccolo, who he quickly dispatches.

Borjack undergoes a notable transformation in the film, both in his power and his demeanor. Initially, he is a calm and observant menace, content to let his minions do the fighting while he watches from the shadows. He appears amused by the efforts of the Z-Fighters. However, as his subordinates are killed and the battle turns against him, he becomes increasingly desperate and enraged. This is most evident in his final confrontation with Super Saiyan 2 Gohan, where his arrogance crumbles into frantic, futile rage. In terms of power development, Borjack can access a second, full-power transformation. In his base state, he has blue-green skin and long orange hair. When he unleashes his full power, his muscle mass dramatically increases, his skin turns a brighter green, and his hair becomes a fiery red, tearing his upper clothing apart. In this state, he is strong enough to easily defeat Super Saiyan Vegeta and Future Trunks, but he is still completely outclassed by Gohan's Super Saiyan 2 form.

Borjack possesses a wide array of notable abilities common to powerful Dragon Ball characters, such as flight, superhuman strength, and the generation of ki blasts. He demonstrates a unique Psycho Barrier, an energy shield that can block sustained barrages of ki blasts. His signature attack is the Grand Smasher, a large, green, explosive energy sphere. His most powerful technique is the Galactic Buster, an enormous, double-wave energy attack that serves as his ultimate finishing move. In combat, he is a brawler who is not afraid to use underhanded tactics, including ordering his subordinates to restrain an opponent with psychic threads so he can land a free hit or launching an attack through his own ally to catch an enemy off guard. This combination of immense raw power, ruthless cunning, and a complete lack of honor defines him as a villain who relies on any means necessary to secure victory.
