Description
Hirano Toushirou is a Tantou, a short sword, who was forged by the swordsmith Awataguchi Yoshimitsu. He belongs to the large group known as the Toushirou brothers, all of whom share a similar lineage and appearance. His historical background is one of a well-bred blade that was largely used for ceremonial purposes and personal security rather than being sent to the front lines of battle. There was even a time when he was presented to a Meiji emperor, and he counts figures such as Toyotomi Hideyoshi and the Maeda clan among his former owners.

In terms of personality, Hirano is known for being reliable and serious. This impression comes directly from the character's original script, presenting him as someone who can be counted on. Despite this serious nature, he is also a well-balanced individual, reflecting the characteristics of the blade itself. His personal history has instilled in him a very strong feeling about protecting his master, which is a core part of his identity.

This motivation to protect is central to his role in the story of Zoku Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru. He feels a strong sense of duty that stems from his past life as a sword used for guarding. He is also one of the later swords to be obtained at the Hanamaru Citadel, being the twenty-fourth sword manifested by the Saniwa. His key relationships are primarily with the other Tantou of the Awataguchi school, who are all his brothers. He interacts with them and the other Touken Danshi at the citadel, and the hope from the performance was to show a different charm in these relationships beyond just his serious demeanor.

One clear example of his development and role can be seen in a specific event where Hirano finds a four-leaf clover, a symbol of good luck, underneath the great tree in the citadel. He intends to give this lucky clover to Uguisumaru, a sword who has just newly arrived at the citadel. However, his journey to deliver the gift is not easy, as he encounters a series of obstacles that make his task challenging. This scenario highlights his thoughtful and determined nature. Regarding his abilities, as a Tantou who was historically used for guard duty, he is depicted as a well-balanced fighter. His skills are suited for close-quarters combat and defense, reflecting his historical role as personal security.
