Hirano Toushirou is a Tantou, a short sword, who was forged by the swordsmith Awataguchi Yoshimitsu. He belongs to the large group known as the Toushirou brothers, all of whom share a similar lineage and appearance. His historical background is one of a well-bred blade that was largely used for ceremonial purposes and personal security rather than being sent to the front lines of battle. There was even a time when he was presented to a Meiji emperor, and he counts figures such as Toyotomi Hideyoshi and the Maeda clan among his former owners.
In terms of personality, Hirano is known for being reliable and serious. This impression comes directly from the character's original script, presenting him as someone who can be counted on.
