Description
Nicolai Brahe held Rank 2 within the organization Ouroboros, marked by an unusual Ouroboros tattoo on his right hand. An orphan from the Nemo Children group, his background contributed to his rise in the organization. He possessed the NEXT ability of petrification, immobilizing opponents by turning them into a stone-like state; this effect reversed if his power deactivated. Nicolai wore gloves to control this ability, and removing them deactivated the power.
He served as adoptive father to Fugan and Mugan, among others from the Nemo Children. Nicolai first encountered the brothers as children during a restaurant incident where a counter attendant threatened them upon discovering they were NEXTs. He intervened, saved them, and invited them to live with him. When they expressed discomfort living with other children, he agreed to let them reside exclusively with him.
Within Ouroboros, Nicolai followed orders even when they conflicted with his protective instincts toward Fugan and Mugan. About six months before the second season's events, Ouroboros directed him to use the brothers to defeat heroes. He resisted, arguing they were too young and inexperienced, but complied under pressure after Ouroboros emphasized their replaceability. He presented the mission to Fugan and Mugan as an opportunity to surpass their idol, L.L. Audun. Later, he overheard them acknowledging the order originated from Ouroboros but agreeing to participate to please him.
After Fugan and Mugan defeated 24 heroes, Nicolai relocated them to Stern Bild to target the city's 12 heroes, aiming for 36 defeats total. There, he coordinated with fellow Rank 2 member Sigourney Rosicky. During their meeting, Sigourney noted his tattoo and deduced his background as a Nemo Child. Nicolai confirmed this and mentioned leveraging capable individuals from among the Nemo Children for the hero hunt. Sigourney offered an experimental drug developed by Mattia Ingram (claimed by Randle) to enhance NEXT abilities.
Nicolai opposed using the drug on Fugan and Mugan, but Sigourney administered it against his objections. In the ensuing conflict, Fugan was injured. Investigating a gunshot, Nicolai discovered Sigourney wounded and learned Gregory Sunshine had escaped with the drug. He pursued Gregory, cornering him outside. Severely injured, Fugan and Mugan returned to bid farewell, expressing gratitude to Nicolai before Gregory shot them. Enraged, Nicolai confronted Gregory but was shot in the chest. In his final moments, he removed his glove, deactivating his petrification ability, and touched Fugan and Mugan as he died. His body was later discovered alongside the twins.
