Description
Magie is a young man who serves as a royal guard in the royal palace of the Dowa Kingdom. He has a youthful appearance, blue eyes, and short blue hair. His official duty ties him to the service of Prince Schwan, one of the key figures in the kingdom's royal family.

Initially, Magie appears to be a minor functionary carrying out orders. Prince Schwan assigns him to monitor Lotta Otus, the sister of the protagonist Jean Otus, and report back on her activities. As part of this surveillance, Magie travels to the capital city of Badon to observe Lotta. It is during this assignment that a more distinctive and endearing aspect of his personality emerges. While in Badon, Magie becomes completely captivated by toast, the simple sliced bread that is a common food item. This fascination is not a passing fancy but a deep and genuine passion that significantly alters the course of his mission. His obsession with bread leads him to a specialty shop where he meets Rail, an officer from the Inspection Department.

Magie and Rail form an unlikely but strong friendship based entirely on their mutual love for bread, and Magie fondly refers to Rail as his bread comrade. Their bond, formed over a shared appreciation for food, becomes a crucial plot point. Unlike the cold, professional relationships typical of political intrigue, this friendship is sincere and personal. Through Rail, Magie likely develops an indirect fondness for Lotta, seeing her not just as a target to be watched but as a person connected to his friend. This personal connection directly fuels his key action in the story.

The central political conflict involves a conspiracy to prevent the ambitious Prince Schwan from ascending the throne. Prince Schwan, in a manipulative move, informs his aunt, the First Princess, about the existence of Jean and Lotta as potential heirs with royal blood, knowing she will see them as obstacles to her own ambitions. When Magie learns that the First Princess has dispatched assassins to eliminate Lotta, he faces a clear choice between his duty to his master, Prince Schwan, and his personal loyalty to a friend. He chooses the latter. Magie immediately contacts Rail to warn him of the imminent danger, directly enabling Rail and Chief Owl to rescue Lotta from the assassination attempt. This act of defiance is his most significant contribution to the narrative, demonstrating that his personal integrity and loyalty outweigh his official obligations. His warning is a critical turning point that helps protect one of the series' central characters.

Magie's primary ability is not combat or strategic genius but his role as an information broker. His position in the palace grants him access to sensitive conversations and plots, making him an effective listener and observer. However, his most notable trait is his genuine, disarming enthusiasm for bread, which allows him to form a trusting relationship with Rail that transcends the political machinations surrounding them. While his duties as a royal guard imply some level of basic training, no specific combat or investigative abilities are highlighted in the series; his value lies in his access to information and his willingness to act on personal loyalty.

Over the course of the story, Magie develops from a servant following orders into a character who acts on his own convictions. He starts as an extension of Prince Schwan's will, a spy placed to watch an innocent girl. Through his seemingly trivial passion for bread, he builds a genuine friendship that ultimately leads him to betray his master's implied interests to save a life. This transformation underscores that even small characters in a large political drama can have a significant moral impact. His role is that of a catalyst, whose single decision to share information sets off a chain of events that helps safeguard the protagonists.
