Description
Koji Kashin is a genetically engineered clone of the legendary Sannin Jiraiya, created by the Kara scientist Amado Sanzu with the singular objective of destroying the Otsutsuki Isshiki. He operated as an Inner of Kara, the organization’s highest tier of operatives, and was tasked with overseeing its activities in the Land of Fire. Unknown to most of his colleagues, he was a double agent working alongside Amado to sabotage Kara’s ultimate plan—the resurrection of Isshiki. His machinations were ultimately aimed at forcing Isshiki to manifest in a weakened state, where a coordinated attack could finally destroy him.
Koji’s early appearances in the series portray him as an enigmatic, masked figure who carries out his missions with cold efficiency. He eliminates Victor, a fellow Inner he deems a traitor, and later kills the former shinobi Ao after a confrontation with Konohamaru’s team. He displays a particular interest in Boruto Uzumaki, studying the young ninja’s Karma seal and concluding that Boruto might hold the key to opposing Jigen. Despite his ruthless actions, Koji is not driven by malice but by a calculated, ends‑justify‑the‑means philosophy. He works alone, trusting few beyond his creator, and remains wholly focused on the destruction of the Otsutsuki.
The climax of his initial arc occurs when he infiltrates Kara’s main base and engages Jigen in a one‑sided battle, forcing Isshiki to fully reincarnate. During this fight, Koji’s mask is shattered and his identity is revealed: he is a replica of Jiraiya, possessing the same techniques and appearance. He mounts a fierce offense using Sage Mode, fire‑style jutsu, and toad summons, even burning Jigen’s body so severely that it becomes unsustainable. Despite his success in damaging the vessel, Koji is overpowered by Isshiki’s full power and gravely wounded. With his last reserves, he summons a toad to swallow him and escapes the battlefield.
Following a long absence, Koji reappears in the time‑skip era of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. He has recovered and taken on the role of a clandestine mentor to Boruto, guiding the young shinobi in the fight against Code and the resurrected Shinju. In this later period, Koji has awakened a unique shinjutsu power called the Ten Directions (often referred to as Prescience). This ability allows him to perceive multiple potential futures at once, enabling him to foresee outcomes and advise Boruto on the decisions most likely to lead to a favorable result. He uses this prescience to remain several steps ahead of the enemy while generally staying out of direct confrontation.
Koji’s key relationships are defined by his purpose. His bond with Amado is that of creator and tool, yet the two share a common goal; Amado admires the original Jiraiya and engineered Koji in his image. His main adversary is Isshiki Otsutsuki, the being he was built to destroy. With Boruto, Koji evolves from an enigmatic observer to a strategic ally, restraining his hand and allowing the younger shinobi to grow. He also clashes with Konohamaru Sarutobi, whom he defeats with ease, and shows no respect for most of Kara’s members.
As a clone of Jiraiya, Koji possesses a vast repertoire of abilities. He wields fire‑style jutsu (including Flame Bullet, Great Flame Bullet, and the Samadhi True Fire that cannot be extinguished by ordinary means) and earth‑style techniques (such as the Swamp of the Underworld). He is a master of toad summoning, using both tiny communication toads and giant war toads in combat. He can generate a Rasengan and an enhanced Sage Art: Super Big Ball Rasengan, and he enters a perfect Sage Mode with no visible toad traits, demonstrating complete control over natural energy. Koji also employs sealing jutsu and genjutsu for information gathering. In the latter part of the series, his shinjutsu ability makes him one of the most strategically valuable characters alive.
Koji Kashin is a figure of dualities—a clone of a beloved hero who operates in shadow, a weapon created for death who ultimately fights for life. His journey from a mysterious Inner of Kara to a key ally in the battle against the Otsutsuki underlines the complex lineage of the ninja world and the enduring influence of Jiraiya’s legacy.
