Description
Blaze is a Chronos Ruler and a member of the Chronos Organization, where he holds the alias Flame Ruler. He is a youth with blonde hair and green eyes, typically seen wearing a brown cloak and black gauntlets. His portrayal differs between adaptations; he is 25 years old in the original manga but depicted as 16 in the anime.
On the surface, Blaze is aggressive and brash, often declaring his aspiration to become the worst person in the world and a true villain. He tends to laugh loudly and is generally quite emotional. However, this rough exterior is a deliberate facade that masks a deeply empathetic and sensitive nature. He has a strong sense of personal honor and always keeps his word. Despite his claims of villainy, the idealistic and kind-hearted character he was as a child never truly vanishes from within him. This inner conflict often surfaces, and he is known to break down in tears upon learning about someone else's traumatic past. Some critical perspectives have found his goal to be a somewhat unconvincing motivation for a character who also serves as a source of comic relief.
Blaze's antagonistic philosophy stems from a painful childhood trauma. As a boy, he lived a virtuous life dedicated to helping others, in contrast to a childhood friend who constantly caused trouble. Attempting to reform his friend, Blaze was instead tricked. His friend burned down a windmill hut before his eyes, and the blame fell upon Blaze, with the villagers accusing him of merely pretending to be good. This experience taught him that a single mistake can erase all memory of a person's good deeds. In response to this profound betrayal and injustice, he resolved to abandon his good nature and become the worst person imaginable, believing that a true villain could never be disappointed by others.
Within the story, Blaze is initially introduced as an antagonist, confronting the protagonist Kiri. Their clash is characterized by the opposing forces of Kiri's water-based abilities and Blaze's flames. Over time, he transitions from an enemy into a reliable ally. A defining aspect of his character is his self-proclaimed role as the older brother to Kiri Putin, towards whom he becomes fiercely overprotective. He joins forces with Kiri and another Chronos Ruler named Mina in various missions, including the pursuit of a giant serpent-shaped Horologue. He later participates in the final battles against major adversaries, joining Kiri and Mina to support Victor in his decisive confrontation with Aiks.
As a Chronos Ruler, Blaze possesses the power of time manipulation, which he manifests through the control and ruler over fire. His abilities are suited for direct combat, allowing him to engage in intense battles against both Horologues and other Chronos Rulers. There are notable differences between his role in the manga and the anime; for instance, in the anime, Kiri is the one who saves Victor from Aiks in a crucial moment, whereas in the original manga, that role belongs to Blaze.
