Description
Gai Takarada is a supporting character in the anime Re:CREATORS, recognized as the author and creator of the in-universe manga series Crimson Listeria or Scarlet Alicetaria. He is a manga artist by profession, and his real name is Naoya Takarada. Born in 1987, he is thirty years old during the events of the story and stands 176 centimeters tall. His outward appearance is designed to project the image of a plain, modest, and serious writer.

Personality-wise, Takarada is depicted as a naive but very conscientious and earnest individual. He is a best-selling author who has sold over eight million copies across four books, yet he does not come across as arrogant or flashy. His primary motivation as a creator is sincere; he writes stories because he believes they are meant to give readers strength and courage, and he feels that if a story does not do that, there is no point in making it. This philosophy underscores his deep, genuine attachment to his own work and its characters.

Takarada's role in the story begins in a state of victimhood. After receiving threats, he goes to the Ogikubo police station to request protection, only to be kidnapped there by his own creation, Alicetaria February. She takes him to the hideout of the antagonist Altair, where he is effectively held captive but provided with a workspace. His situation takes a turn when the protagonist, Sota Mizushino, persuades Alicetaria to release him, convincing her that Takarada is the only one who can support her as her creator. After his release, Takarada officially joins the Special Situation Response Meeting, the organization formed to counter the threat posed by the landed fictional characters, offering his skills as a creator to support his own character in the conflict.

Key relationships define his journey. His most significant bond is with his own creation, Alicetaria February. Initially, he is a captive to her, but their relationship evolves into a proper creator-character partnership based on mutual support. Sota Mizushino is also a crucial figure, as his words are directly responsible for Takarada's release and subsequent change in circumstances. He also interacts with other creators, such as his colleague Matsubara; after the crisis ends, he proposes a collaborative work to Matsubara, though it is politely declined due to artistic differences.

Takarada undergoes a notable but subtle development. He starts as a helpless creator, completely at the mercy of a situation he does not understand. After joining the official effort, he gains agency. The most significant moment in his arc occurs at the Border World Colosseum, where he witnesses Alicetaria February disappear. The event is deeply traumatic, causing him to leave the control room in tears and vent his anger and grief. Despite this profound loss, he does not stop creating. He continues to write, carrying Alicetaria's feelings and beliefs in his heart. His perseverance is rewarded when he eventually wins the Kogakusha Manga Award in the boys category, signifying his growth as an artist who can channel his pain into his work.

Regarding notable abilities, Gai Takarada possesses no superhuman or combat-related powers. His abilities are those of a skilled professional creator: he is a talented writer and manga author capable of producing a successful, long-running series. His primary contribution to the story's conflict is his creative talent, used to support the characters from his world. He does not participate in the final battle in a direct capacity, as his mental state has not yet fully recovered from the trauma of the events.
