TV-Series
Description
Daigo Aoki is a student of the 92nd Tōtsuki Generation and a resident of the Polar Star Dormitory, making his primary appearance as a supporting member of the cast. He is a young man with a distinct and somewhat intimidating appearance, characterized by his spiky black hair, long sideburns, tan skin, and a well-built, athletic physique. His standard Tōtsuki uniform is most often seen worn unbuttoned without a tie, and even when cooking, he typically prefers a simple white undershirt, contributing to his tough and rough-around-the-edges look.

True to his appearance, Daigo possesses a loud, energetic, and boisterous personality. He is almost constantly seen bickering or engaging in playful physical fights with his fellow Polar Star resident and close friend, Shōji Satō. Despite their frequent quarrels, the pair are nearly inseparable, and their constant arguments mask a deep and genuine friendship. Beneath his rough exterior, Daigo is fiercely loyal to his friends and fellow residents of the Polar Star Dormitory. He is quick to defend them from insults from other students and is a consistent source of sideline support during major competitions like the Régiment de Cuisine. He also has a playful, sometimes bothersome side, often joining other residents in teasing the more serious Zenji Marui and using Zenji's room as a gathering spot for dormitory parties.

Daigo's primary role in the story is as a member of the supporting ensemble within the Polar Star Dormitory. He represents the broader student body at Tōtsuki and provides a sense of community and normalcy amidst the exploits of prodigies like Sōma Yukihira. His motivations are rooted in loyalty to his dorm and a personal commitment to improving his culinary skills. During the Central arc led by Azami Nakamura, he sides with the resistance, pragmatically choosing the faction he believes will best elevate Tōtsuki's culinary standards. However, along with several other Polar Star members, he fails his promotion exams and is sidelined from the main competition, confined with other non-participants to offer comic relief and exposition during the Régiment de Cuisine.

His key relationships are centered almost entirely within the Polar Star Dormitory. His most significant bond is with Shōji Satō, his constant companion and rival in bickering. He shares a friendly, fraternal relationship with all the dorm members, including Sōma Yukihira, Zenji Marui, and Yūki Yoshino, often participating in group activities and dorm traditions. While he does not have a deep personal connection to Erina Nakiri, he once served her a dish of Buttered Whitefish when she stayed at the dormitory. Although she critiqued it harshly, Daigo was excited by the opportunity to learn from her feedback, viewing it as a chance to sharpen his skills.

Daigo's development is subtle, as he remains a secondary character throughout the series. He shows a consistent dedication to his craft, and while he may not possess a unique or specialized cooking style, he is shown to be competent enough to survive the rigorous curriculum of Tōtsuki Academy. His growth is more about reinforcing his reliability and unwavering support for his friends rather than a dramatic personal transformation. His most notable abilities in cooking lie not in innovation but in his fundamental skill and his understanding of fresh ingredients. One of his demonstrated dishes includes Vegetable Fritters made from fresh produce from the Polar Star garden, which Sōma Yukihira praised for the quality of its ingredients. Another is the Buttered Whitefish, which, despite Erina Nakiri's criticism of its technical flaws, was acknowledged for successfully highlighting the natural flavors of the main ingredient.
