Description
Momoe Okonogi is a second-year junior high school student at Seikyou Academy in Dusk Maiden of Amnesia. She is officially a member of the school's Third Newspaper Club, but she becomes an informal participant in the Paranormal Investigations Club after stumbling upon one of the school's Seven Mysteries. Her initial involvement stems from fear: she performs a ghost ritual and becomes terrified that she has incurred the wrath of the spirit Yuuko, leading her to seek help from Teiichi Niiya. This event sparks her fascination with the club's activities.

Momoe is cheerful, energetic, and deeply enthusiastic about urban legends and ghost stories. She has a gullible nature and readily believes any supernatural rumor she encounters, which often drives the club to investigate new mysteries. Despite her intense interest in the paranormal, she cannot see Yuuko like Teiichi can, interpreting Yuuko's influence as ordinary phenomena or attributing events to Teiichi himself. This inability creates an ironic gap between her enthusiasm and the reality of the supernatural world around her.

Her motivation is a genuine curiosity about the unknown, as well as a sense of gratitude toward Teiichi for helping her during her first frightening encounter with a school legend. Over time, she develops a quiet romantic interest in Teiichi, inspired by his dedication to solving the Seven Mysteries. She struggles to confess her feelings, often becoming too nervous to voice them directly.

Within the story, Momoe serves as the club's catalyst, frequently proposing new cases to investigate. Her bright, humorous personality provides a lighthearted contrast to the series' darker themes of death and unresolved grief. She also becomes close friends with Kirie Kanoe, whom she grows to respect despite Kirie's reserved demeanor. At the school festival, their bond solidifies, with Momoe treating Kirie as a trusted companion.

Momoe undergoes limited character development; she remains a comic relief figure throughout most of the narrative, but her role underscores the theme that belief in the supernatural does not require direct proof. She demonstrates loyalty and emotional support for her friends, even when she cannot fully grasp the nature of the ghostly presence that surrounds them. Her ability to believe without seeing makes her an effective foil to the other characters who directly interact with Yuuko.

She has no special supernatural abilities; she is an ordinary human with a lively disposition and a knack for uncovering new rumors. Her contributions are social and investigative rather than magical or combat-related. She is noted for being a year older than Teiichi, which occasionally places her in a mildly more experienced or protective position, though she often relies on him for guidance in paranormal matters.
