Description
Cyborg 002, whose full name is Jet Link, is a central protagonist in the 1960s anime film Cyborg 009 and the Monster Wars. He is an American cyborg created by the evil organization Black Ghost, designed for high-speed aerial combat and reconnaissance. As the second model in the 00 Cyborg series, Jet brings a distinct blend of streetwise toughness and a serious, determined demeanor to the team.
Before his forced transformation, Jet Link was a teenager from the West Side of New York City who led a gang. On the run from the police following a deadly altercation with a rival gang, he was tricked by a Black Ghost agent who promised him an escape, only to abduct him for cybernetic experimentation. This past as a street fighter is the foundation of his personality; he is a rebellious and brash individual who is not afraid to speak his mind. Despite this rough exterior, he acts as a supportive and friendly older brother figure to his fellow cyborgs, and he is deeply loyal to the team. His primary motivation is a powerful and personal determination to destroy Black Ghost, the organization that robbed him of his humanity.
Within the team, his relationships are defined by mutual respect, despite occasional friction. He frequently clashes with the leader, Cyborg 009, questioning his decisions, but ultimately follows him into battle. This dynamic solidifies Jet's role as a valuable, if sometimes challenging, member of the group. In the Monster Wars film, Jet is a key fighter who is captured along with most of his comrades by Black Ghost in their underground base. He is later freed and joins the final battle against the organization's forces. After an initial victory over Black Ghost, Jet opted to return to New York and attempted to live a normal life, becoming a football player. However, he was called out of retirement when the evil syndicate resurfaced, showcasing his sense of duty and inability to ignore the threat of Black Ghost.
Jet Link's most notable ability is supersonic flight, achieved through jet thrusters built into his legs. This allows him to serve as the team's primary aerial attacker, capable of flying at high speeds and navigating through the air for both assault and rescue missions. As an early prototype in the 00 Cyborg line, he possesses strength enhancements, though his body is designed to be light to enable flight. He also wields a prototype Acceleration unit, a precursor to Cyborg 009’s more advanced version, which grants him a temporary burst of incredible speed to outmaneuver opponents. Complementing his cybernetic powers, his experience as a former gang member made him a highly proficient marksman, and he is often shown dual-wielding specially made super guns. His civilian life also demonstrated an exceptional talent for driving and motorcycling.
