Description
Kazuto "Kirito" Kirigaya's portrayal in *Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night* evolves his established persona within new narrative layers. Set shortly after the first floor clearance, the story follows Kirito and Asuna’s partnership as they ascend to Aincrad's fifth floor.

Operating primarily as a solo player, Kirito maintains strategic alliances—especially with Asuna—while leveraging his technical expertise from beta testing. Unexpected deviations in the fifth-floor boss mechanics force him to adapt tactics during the raid on Fuscus the Vacant Colossus. His leadership surfaces as he coordinates party members to exploit the boss's shifting weak points.

Tensions between major clearing guilds ALS and DKB escalate, prompting Kirito to intervene upon uncovering ALS's plan to ambush the boss prematurely. He negotiates with ALS leader Kibaou, securing permission for an independent group to challenge the boss first—a pragmatic maneuver to preserve stability.

Kirito's protectiveness toward Asuna intensifies during their investigation of rumored player-killer activities. After a post-battle ambush by a mysterious assailant, he deduces the existence of organized player-killing groups, introducing an external threat to their progression.

His interactions retain characteristic bluntness and occasional teasing, particularly with Asuna. A recurring subplot involves Asuna's intense fear of ghost-type monsters, creating tension during dungeon explorations. Kirito responds with a blend of exasperation and pragmatic support.

Following the boss battle, a confrontation with the ALS guild arises. Kirito leverages a rare drop item to impose conditions preventing further guild conflict, demonstrating his grasp of in-game politics and commitment to cooperation.

Underlying psychological elements—including survivor's guilt and aversion to repeating past failures like the Moonlit Black Cats incident—inform his cautious approach to party dynamics and responsibility during critical encounters.
