Her origins are complex; she is the biological daughter of the genetic scientist Ulen Hibiki and his wife Via, making her the fraternal twin sister of Kira Yamato. Unlike her brother, who was genetically modified as a Coordinator while still an embryo, Cagalli was carried to term naturally by her mother, making her a Natural.
