Description
Natsume Chigara is a young, pink-haired student at Oju Academy who initially appears as a shy and gentle girl. She enjoys quiet activities such as watering the plants in the school greenhouse and is best known as the closest friend of Masami, the daughter of the boarding house where the three time-traveling protagonists stay. Her quiet demeanor often leads her to act as a peacemaker, though her attempts to calm the frequent arguments between Gawl and Masami consistently fail.
Despite her timid surface, Natsume is revealed to be a complex character with a hidden agenda. She is actually working for the antagonist Ryuko Saito and has known from the moment she first saw Gawl and his companions that they are time travelers from the future. Her role as a spy allows Ryuko to track the trio’s movements. However, Natsume is not genuinely loyal to Ryuko; she is forced into cooperation. When Ryuko implants a bomb inside her body and attempts to use her as a weapon against Gawl and the others, Natsume rebels. She leaves a recorded message for the group explaining the truth and then goes into the forest alone to detonate the bomb in a place where it will not harm anyone else, sacrificing herself.
A deeper layer of her significance is revealed later: Natsume is the genetic mother of Gawl, Koji, and Ryo. In the future timeline, Ryuko harvested eggs from Natsume, which were used to clone the three Generators. This biological connection imbues her character with a tragic maternal weight, even though she does not raise them or know them as her own in the present.
Natsume’s motivations stem from a desire to protect those she cares about, but also from fear and coercion. Her development moves from a seemingly innocent supporting character to a secret agent and finally to a selfless martyr. She has no innate combat abilities or powers; her only notable trait is her role as a human bomb carrier, which she ultimately rejects. Her death deeply affects the protagonists, especially Gawl, triggering a berserk transformation driven by rage and grief.
