Description
Jun the Swan, designated G-3, is a core member of the Science Ninja Team, where she serves as the specialist in electronics, demolitions, and computer hacking. Her civilian identity is Jun, and she operates under the aliases Agatha Junio or Agatha June in some adaptations. She manages a bar, cafe, or nightclub called the GoGo Café or Snack J, which functions as the team's primary off-duty gathering place and also serves as her home alongside her younger adoptive brother, Jinpei.

Jun's background is marked by tragedy from an early age. Orphaned as a child, she never knew her parents, who were of mixed Japanese and American heritage. After the death of an aunt who had taken her in, she fled the chaos of war and eventually found refuge at the Shirayuki Orphanage. It was during this time that she discovered a toddler in the Jupiter Mountains, whom she named Jinpei and raised as her younger brother. The two were eventually taken under the wing of Dr. Kozaburo Nambu when Jun was around thirteen years old, which led to her recruitment into the Science Ninja Team. She begins her career on the team as its initial leader before Ken Washio proves himself worthy of the role.

In terms of personality, Jun is a brave and independent young woman who takes her duties in the battle against the terrorist organization Galactor very seriously. She remains calm under pressure and is a strategic thinker, using her skills in data analysis to find a way out of dangerous situations. Despite her tough exterior, she is also sensitive and possesses a strong motherly instinct, particularly towards her teammates, whom she views as her family. In her free time, she enjoys riding her motorcycle, dancing, acting, and modeling, skills that often prove useful for infiltration missions requiring disguises.

Jun's role on the team is technical and supportive, yet she is also a formidable fighter. She acts as the team's communications and demolition expert, handling explosives and hazardous materials. Her fighting style is agile, incorporating spinning movements and high kicks. She is also highly proficient in martial arts, specifically karate and aikido.

Her key relationships are central to her character development. She shares a deep, sibling-like bond with Jinpei, caring for him both on and off the battlefield, although they frequently argue and tease each other. She relies on him to handle the cooking at their café, as she is known to be a poor cook herself. Jun harbors complex feelings for the team leader, Ken Washio. She develops romantic feelings for him, often showing concern for his well-being and growing irritated when he remains focused solely on the mission. This relationship evolves over time, particularly in the later series Gatchaman Fighter, where she becomes driven to prevent Ken from pushing himself towards a self-destructive end in battle, and it is implied that the feelings between them are mutual, though their duty to the world prevents them from pursuing a relationship. Her relationship with Joe Asakura, the G-2, is characterized by tension and mutual respect. He often pushes her to prioritize her duty over personal attachments, which leads to conflict but also helps her focus on her missions. One of the most significant emotional arcs in her story involves a childhood friend named Koji Yabane, who joins Galactor. When their paths cross again, Jun is forced to confront him, and despite her deep emotional turmoil, she personally fires the missile that destroys his mecha, recovering only his damaged helmet as a memento.

Jun possesses a notable array of equipment and abilities. Her primary weapon is a specialized, reinforced yo-yo that can be used as a whip or flail; it can also carry an electric current to shock opponents or be loaded with explosives. She also wields feather shurikens as projectile weapons. In Gatchaman II, her main weapon changes to the Aurora Ribbon, a grappling rope used as a whip. Her personal vehicle is a powerful 700cc motorcycle that, upon transforming into her Bird Style, becomes a high-tech hovercraft known as the G-3 or Sonic Car, capable of traveling on water and in the air. In her Bird Style, she can glide through the air and, along with the rest of her team, perform the Whirlwind or Tornado attack, which generates a devastating cyclone. Her design has varied across different adaptations of the series, with the original featuring a pink uniform and dark green hair that curls at the ends, while later versions, such as the 1994 OVA, reimagine her with a shorter brown bob and a more modernized split-skirt uniform.
