Description
Ayu Tsukimiya, a recurring character in *Kaginado*, draws her portrayal directly from her original role in *Kanon*. She retains her signature traits: an energetic demeanor, childlike behavior, and a deep fondness for taiyaki. Her *Kaginado* appearances are comedic, referencing established quirks like being arrested for stealing taiyaki or being confined with Yuri Nakamura during a student council election while others pursue her tie-breaking vote. These moments emphasize her tendency toward mishaps and her role as a source of lighthearted chaos within the ensemble.

Originating from *Kanon*, Ayu is a petite 17-year-old (154 cm, 41 kg) often perceived as younger due to her childlike appearance and expressive mannerisms. She consistently wears a distinctive outfit: a tan duffel coat, mittens, brown argyle socks, snow boots, a red hairband, and a small backpack featuring angel wings—a design element initially serving as unintentional foreshadowing. Her personality centers on exuberance and innocence. She frequently uses the verbal tic "ugū" to express frustration or fear and exhibits impulsiveness, such as tackling protagonist Yuichi Aizawa upon reuniting. She is easily frightened by supernatural themes and displays naivety about everyday objects like mobile phones. Despite her clumsiness, she shows determination in searching for a significant lost item she cannot recall.

Ayu's history with Yuichi begins seven years before *Kanon*'s main events. They first met when he comforted her grieving her mother's death with taiyaki, which became her favorite food. That winter, Yuichi gave her an angel doll and promised to grant three wishes. Her first wish was for him never to forget her; her second was to "attend school" together. They established a makeshift school beneath a large tree in a forest clearing, where Ayu buried the doll in a jar. During their last meeting, a gust of wind knocked her from the tree, resulting in a head injury that left her comatose. This trauma caused Yuichi to repress his memories of her and the town.

In the present timeline, Ayu exists as an astral projection—a manifestation of her comatose body—interacting with others while unconsciously seeking the buried doll. After Yuichi recalls her accident and mistakenly believes she died, he locates and repairs the doll. They reunite, and Ayu considers using her third wish to erase his memories to spare him pain. She vanishes again, but Yuichi later learns she survived in a seven-year coma. She awakens miraculously, and they reunite at the hospital, resolving her arc with a return to normal life.

In *Kaginado*, her character does not undergo new development but serves as a tribute to her original narrative. Her interactions reinforce core traits: her taiyaki obsession drives humorous conflicts, and her childlike perspective contrasts with more mature characters. The series acknowledges her *Kanon* backstory—including her coma and relationship with Yuichi—but does not expand upon it, focusing instead on comedic callbacks to her energetic antics and verbal tics.
