Description
Drang is a young mercenary who travels with his partner, Sturm, and is a recurring presence throughout the story of Granblue Fantasy the Animation. He belongs to the Elune tribe, a race distinguished by their long ears, and stands at a height of 172 centimeters not including his ears. His age is unknown.

On the surface, Drang presents the image of a cheerful, easygoing, and affectionate free spirit. He is playful and enjoys jokes and pranks on those around him, which gives him a friendly and disarming demeanor. However, this lighthearted and almost silly attitude is largely an act designed to make his opponents lower their guard. Behind his perpetual smile lies the mind of a cunning and shrewd strategist, always concealing his true intentions and orchestrating a variety of schemes. This makes his true nature very difficult to grasp, as he rarely breaks his playful facade even when dealing with those who are clearly superior to him. He dislikes silence and is always drawn to things he finds interesting. Hobbies include visiting historical sites and teasing others.

Drang is employed as a special agent of the Erste Empire, alongside his partner Sturm. Their primary role is to serve under the mysterious Black Knight, who is the one who hired the pair. Their missions often put them in direct opposition to the crew of the Grandcypher, tasked with tracking them down and retrieving Lyria. However, the relationship between Drang, Sturm, and the protagonists is not strictly adversarial. Due to shifting allegiances and overlapping interests, they occasionally find themselves cooperating with Gran and his friends, acting as a foil that can be both an obstacle and an unexpected ally.

The most significant relationship in Drang's life is with his partner, Sturm. Their personalities are a study in stark contrasts, with Drang being the scheming talker and Sturm being the more direct and stoic protector. Despite these differences, or perhaps because of them, the pairing works exceptionally well, as they complement each other's weaknesses in battle. In combat, Drang is a mage who relies on Sturm for direct protection and close-quarters fighting, while he uses his magical abilities to cover her from a distance.

Drang's allegiance to the Erste Empire and the Black Knight is a central part of his role in the story, though his own motivations appear to be more complex than simple loyalty. He is recognized as an incredibly skilled and resourceful mercenary who has made a name for himself across various skydoms. His vast experience and cunning nature mean he often holds key information that is crucial to the larger conflict, making him more than just a simple antagonist. He is a key figure who adds depth to the complex power struggles surrounding the Empire and the Black Knight.

Drang undergoes some development, particularly during the second season of the anime. In one arc, the crew crash-lands on an island suffering from a curse, the work of the ghost ship Primal Beast Celeste. On this island, Drang reveals a personal connection to a resident ghost girl named Ferry, hinting at his past. It is eventually revealed that he is the great-grandson of Ferry's sister, a discovery that gives insight into his history and motivations, leading him to actively help the crew resolve the crisis on the island.

Drang is a powerful mage, though his abilities are often overshadowed by his cunning. He is proficient in a range of magical attacks and defensive techniques, typically utilizing an orb as a focus for his spells. His magical capabilities are versatile, covering abilities that debuff enemies, such as lowering their defense or attack power, as well as granting protective barriers and evasion to himself or his allies. His fighting style is as tricky as his personality, favoring traps and subterfuge to control the flow of battle. Examples of his named techniques include "Viora Cheuses" and "Fairtrick Raid". His strategy often involves toggling between different "states" to enhance his offensive or defensive support magic, demonstrating his capacity for complex, tactical thinking even in combat.
