Description
Kazuya Nachi is a main character in the story, serving as the drummer and de facto leader of the band that evolves from The fallen moon into Blue Wells. He is a third-year student at the same high school as the protagonists Yuu Haruna and Fuuka Akitsuki, where he also acts as the captain of the track and field club. Standing at 179 cm tall with a birthday on July 9, his athletic build and energetic nature are defining parts of his presence.

Personality-wise, Nachi is characterized by his straightforward, earnest, and often tactless nature. He tends to speak his mind without a filter, making inappropriate jokes or insensitive comments that frequently get him into trouble, particularly with his female bandmates. This obliviousness extends to romance, where he is notably clueless, leading others like Koyuki Hinashi and Sara Iwami to label him as "the worst" in that regard. Despite these social blunders, he possesses a laid-back charisma and a sincere passion for music, making him a reliable, if unconventional, heart of the band.

His motivation for getting involved with music is almost accidental. Initially, inspired by his admiration for the legendary athlete Yamato Akitsuki, Nachi tries to recruit Yamato’s daughter, Fuuka, for the track team. Instead, he gets swept up in her enthusiasm for starting a band. Drawing on experience from helping his older brother, who was in a band, Nachi quickly takes on the role of drummer and offers up his family’s garage as the band's primary practice studio. After graduating high school, he takes a job with a moving company to support his dream of continuing with the band.

Nachi’s role in the story is that of a founding member and the group’s leader. He is responsible for much of the band's organization and key decisions. One of his most significant acts as leader is disbanding the original group, The fallen moon, to reform under a new name out of respect for a new member, Fuuka Aoi, feeling it would be wrong to keep the name "Akitsuki". While a thoughtful gesture, this decision backfires financially and lands the band in debt, showcasing how his well-intentioned plans can lead to chaos.

His key relationships are central to the story’s dynamic. He shares a notably comic and physically combative relationship with the guitarist Sara Iwami. Nachi frequently provokes her with blunt remarks or minor acts of harassment, for which he is almost immediately met with a kick or a punch. In a surprising twist stemming from his own cluelessness, a conversation where he tries to lecture Sara about her excessive spending of band funds on toilet paper leads to a misunderstanding where she confesses to him, and the two begin dating. He is also a student of Nobuaki Yahagi, a mentor who acknowledges his skill but constantly pushes him for more consistency.

In terms of development, Nachi matures from a well-meaning but insensitive upperclassman into a more responsible leader. His journey involves learning from his mistakes, like the financial debt from renaming the band, and balancing his adult working life with his musical ambitions. As a drummer, he is considered talented and competent by his mentor, though his live performances are noted for being inconsistent and lacking stability at times. He plays a set of ZENN drums as a member of Blue Wells, continuing to pursue music with a more mature perspective.
