Description
Mr. Sandal, whose full name is Alexandre Sena Davis Celibidache, is a mysterious foreigner who appears multiple times in the rural town of Manoyama. He has shoulder-length blond hair and blue eyes, and he typically wears a khaki cloak over a black turtleneck sweater with denim pants and brown sandals. He is often seen carrying a light brown bucket bag as well as musical instruments such as a ukulele and a harmonica. His background is largely enigmatic, though he is recognized as a wandering artist and painter. He seems to have a keen observational nature and a poetic, easygoing personality. His motivations are not overtly stated, but he appears to be a traveler who drifts through Manoyama, capturing its atmosphere and people through art and music.

In the story, Mr. Sandal first appears buying a box of the Chupakabura manju that the main characters are trying to sell, later providing a key piece of local folklore by knowing the dragon song during the matchmaking tour event. He is also commissioned to draw a concept image for a giant wooden palace the characters hope to build. His most significant role is that of the unseen recorder of the narrative: it is revealed in the final episode that he wrote the novel titled Sakura Quest, which serves as the framing device for the entire series. He has limited direct interactions with the main characters, but when he does, he tends to assist them in subtle, often unintentional ways. His development is minimal on a personal level; he remains an outsider and a muse-like figure throughout, but his revelation as the author gives his presence a deeper narrative purpose. His notable abilities include drawing, playing multiple instruments, and a gift for peaceful wandering that allows him to blend into the background while observing the town’s transformations.
