Description
Gordes Musik Yggdmillennia is a character from the narrative of Fate/Apocrypha, serving as a magus belonging to the Yggdmillennia faction and the Master of the Black Saber, Siegfried. At the age of thirty-six, he is a portly man who places immense pride in his lineage and the prestige of his family name. He is a descendant of the Musik family, a once-illustrious alchemy clan that was historically considered a rival to the renowned Einzbern family. Over time, the magical bloodline of the Musiks decayed, forcing them to be absorbed into the larger Yggdmillennia organization. Raised by parents who constantly reminded him of their family's former glory, Gordes struggles to separate reality from the dream of reclaiming that past, possessing a pride that runs deeper than the sea and higher than the mountains.

Driven by a fierce desire to prove the worth of both his bloodline and himself, Gordes is motivated by a need for authority and recognition. His personality is defined by a conspicuous arrogance and a somewhat grumpy disposition. He is known among his peers by the derogatory nicknames the King of Incompetents and the King of Waster Command Spells due to his strategic blunders and mismanagement during the Great Holy Grail War. Despite appearing pompous and contemptuous, particularly of rebellious individuals, his character possesses a complex layer. The author has noted that underneath his irritable exterior beats a heart of gold, though Gordes would aggressively deny any such accusation publicly. He is the type of person who assumes a desktop theory is equal to reality, which leads to frequent miscalculations on the battlefield.

In the story, Gordes plays a significant technical and tactical role for the Black faction. He is a highly capable alchemist whose contributions to the war effort are, in fact, considerable. He devised and implemented a system to manipulate the Grail's mana pathway lines, a foul play that allowed the Yggdmillennia faction to use artificial lifeforms, homunculi, as external magical energy batteries for their Servants. This innovation meant the Servants did not need to draw energy from their Masters for upkeep or Noble Phantasms, granting the Black faction a massive strategic advantage and enabling the summoning of a full seven Servants on their side. He also manages the creation of these homunculi, using the Einzbern's techniques to forge them, but his versions are described as more industrial and less artistic, often possessing varying qualities and defects. One particular homunculus he created, designated as the master of the "Black" Caster, is named Sieg.

His key relationship is with his Servant, Siegfried. Gordes is initially overjoyed to have summoned the great hero of the Saber class, but his pride and fear of having Siegfried's famous weakness exposed lead him to commit a grave error. He orders his Servant to remain silent and only speak when given permission, brandishing his Command Spells to emphasize the strictness of this order. This command creates a fatal misunderstanding between Master and Servant. While Gordes believes he has successfully bent a great hero to his will, Siegfried simply consents out of a sense of duty and self-loathing, leading to a complete lack of communication and dysfunctional teamwork. Gordes becomes frustrated in battle when Siegfried cannot immediately defeat enemies like Achilles, and he wastes Command Spells in panic, much to the dismay of his allies.

The most significant turning point for Gordes occurs during the capture of a runaway homunculus. After being wounded by the homunculus, a half-crazed Gordes begins to savagely beat it with his fists. Shocked by his Master's actions, Siegfried punches Gordes, knocking him unconscious to save the homunculus's life. Having his Servant, a being who should obey him, not only strike him but defy his orders completely shatters Gordes's pride. This event marks the beginning of his character development. After hitting rock bottom, he spends much of the ensuing war drowning his shame in drink. However, his broken pride allows for a noticeable change in his behavior. He becomes more honest and humbled. He forges a new relationship with the homunculus Sieg, who now bears Siegfried's heart, and begins to treat the artificial lifeforms he once regarded as mere tools with more respect, even going so far as to protect them. After the war, he manages to negotiate the survival of the remaining members of his faction, takes back the name Musik, and returns to the Clock Tower, intending to raise his son while having gained a more realistic perspective on his family's legacy.

Regarding his notable abilities, Gordes is a first-class magus specializing in alchemy. While his overall talent is considered half-hearted, ranking above some of his peers but below the prodigies, his skill in his specific field is exceptional. In combat, he knows a spell that allows him to transmute his flesh into iron, using the aria Shapeshift Iron Arm to create powerful fists for close-quarters fighting. This spell is capable of inflicting fatal wounds, as he demonstrated when he used it to brutally beat the homunculus Sieg. However, it is his strategic application of knowledge, specifically the creation of the homunculus-based mana supply system, that stands as his greatest magical achievement and the reason his arrogance was tolerated by his allies.
