Description
Fiore Forvedge Yggdmillennia is a character from the anime Fate/Apocrypha. She is a young woman of nineteen years with wavy brown hair, clear blue eyes, and a gentle demeanor that gives an impression of fragile nobility. As a member of the Yggdmillennia clan of magi, she holds the position of the current head of the Forvedge family and was designated as a candidate to become the clan's next leader due to her exceptional talents.
Born with a rare gift for magecraft, Fiore possesses a high quantity and quality of Magic Circuits, which grant her an immense capacity for magical energy. Her potential as a magus is considered superior even to that of Darnic, the clan's aging leader, and she is expected to rise to the rank of Cause or higher as she matures. However, this innate gift came with a severe physical cost. The Magic Circuits in her legs underwent a mutation, causing a progressive deterioration that ultimately robbed her of the ability to walk. Consequently, she relies on a wheelchair for mobility. Her deepest wish for the Holy Grail is to heal her legs without having to remove the Magic Circuits within them, which would effectively mean abandoning her identity as a magus.
Fiore is a quintessential studious magus, deeply knowledgeable in her chosen fields of spiritual evocation and ergonomics but largely inexperienced with the mundane world. She is noted for being unworldly and curious, once earnestly asking if the internet referred to a physical net. Her personality is defined by a marked contradiction between her formidable abilities as a magus and her compassionate, ethical nature. While she possesses the skills to be a cold and calculating spellcaster, she cannot suppress a fundamentally humane sensibility. A formative childhood trauma, in which her father used a stray dog she had befriended as a failed subject in a spiritual evocation experiment and killed it in front of her, has left a permanent psychological scar. She dwells on this memory constantly, acknowledging that such sentimentality is a weakness for a magus but finding herself unable to discard it.
This internal conflict is central to her role in the story. As a Master of the Black faction, she summons the Servant Archer, who is the centaur sage Chiron, using an ancient arrow as a catalyst. Her primary motivation in the Holy Grail War is to acquire the Grail's power to restore the function of her legs while preserving her Magic Circuits. Throughout the Great Holy Grail War, she acts as a commander and key strategic leader for the Yggdmillennia side, directing operations and engaging in combat herself. She fights using a powerful set of magical prosthetic limbs of her own design, known as the Bronzelink Manipulator, a set of four mechanical arms that extend from her back to grant her superhuman offensive and defensive capabilities in battle. During the war, she is forced to confront the harsh realities of magecraft, including a near-fatal encounter with the Servant Assassin of Black, from which she is rescued.
Her key relationships are central to her personal journey. She has a close bond with her younger brother, Caules Forvedge Yggdmillennia, who also participates in the war as the Master of Berserker. Though she sees herself as the reliable older sister and protector, she is unaware of how much her more practically-minded brother does to support her, and she unconsciously relies on him frequently. Her relationship with her Servant, Chiron, is one of mutual respect and guidance. As a wise teacher figure, Chiron recognizes her immense potential but also worries that the path of a magus, with its inherent ruthlessness, may ultimately lead her to unhappiness. It is through Chiron's counsel and the support of her brother that Fiore begins the most significant development of her character arc.
Following the death of Darnic and the chaos of the war, Fiore assumes command of the remnants of the Black faction. However, she ultimately makes a decision that defies the core tenets of a magus. Acknowledging the profound conflict between her gentle nature and the cruelty required to pursue magecraft, she chooses to abandon the world of magic entirely. She has the problematic Magic Circuits in her legs removed, thereby sacrificing her prodigious magical talent to restore her ability to walk. She then passes the Forvedge family's magic crest and the position of heir to her brother Caules. In the end, Fiore is seen beginning the arduous process of learning to walk again, using parallel bars for physical therapy, as she prepares to start a new life outside of the secretive and brutal world of magecraft.
