Description
Ernesti Echevarria, almost always called Eru by those close to him, is the main protagonist of his story. He is a young boy who initially appears to be a quiet and composed child, but his calm demeanor rapidly transforms into visible excitement whenever the subject turns to Silhouette Knights. Eru possesses a small stature and a delicate, feminine appearance, a fact he is somewhat troubled by as it often leads to people assuming he is a girl or trying to hug him. Despite his youthful looks, he is remarkably hardworking, devoted, and can be quite brave, even challenging enormous monsters alone when necessary.
Eru's entire existence is driven by an all-consuming passion for Silhouette Knights. His primary goal is not just to pilot these giant robots but to design and build his own. This motivation stems from his hidden background: he is the reincarnation of Tsubasa Kurata, a highly skilled Japanese programmer and devoted mecha enthusiast who died in an accident. Reborn into a world where magic and mecha coexist, he finds his life's purpose in combining his past life's knowledge with the magical principles of his new world. This obsession is so profound that it forms a personal aesthetic code: he believes that a robot should only be destroyed by another robot, considering anything else, like fighting on foot or using only artillery, to be a violation of aesthetics.
In the story, Eru serves as a revolutionary force and a technological pioneer. From a very young age, he demonstrates genius-level intellect, outperforming students many years his senior and completely restructuring his class schedule with forceful insistence to attend the most advanced Silhouette Knight engineering courses. His role quickly evolves from a prodigy student to a key military asset. He is appointed the commander of the Silver Phoenix Knights, a knight order created to support his development efforts, and later becomes the director of the National Defense Research Institute, effectively becoming the head of his kingdom's research and development for new Silhouette Knight technology. In times of national crisis caused by high-level monsters, he is granted command authority over all knight companies, serving as the kingdom's ultimate line of defense.
Eru maintains several key relationships that shape his journey. His closest companions are the twin siblings Adelturt and Archid Olter, whom he meets in his youth and who become his lifelong friends and trusted comrades-in-arms. He supports them unconditionally, even upon learning they are illegitimate children. He shares a deep bond with his grandfather, Lauri Echebarria, who helps him gain an audience with the king to further his ambitions. Although initially oblivious to romance due to his single-minded focus on robots, he eventually marries Adelturt.
Eru undergoes significant development, though his core personality shifts more in responsibility than in nature. He begins as a child so driven that he hacks a Silhouette Knight to fight a monster alone, driven by the sheer joy of the experience. As the story progresses, he matures into a leader, commanding his own order and taking responsibility for the defense of the kingdom. While he remains a passionate innovator, he also learns to channel his ambitions through proper channels, though his designs are often described as awesome but impractical, requiring entire teams to adapt them for mass production.
His notable abilities are extraordinary and directly linked to his past life. He perceives magical scripts as computer programs, allowing him to optimize and rewrite them with an efficiency no one else can match. Most famously, he can initiate "Full Control" by directly hacking a Silhouette Knight's Magius engine, granting him complete, unparalleled control over the machine. He is a prolific inventor, creating revolutionary technologies like the Gunlike Rod, a combination magic wand and sword; strand-type crystal tissue for stronger mecha frames; and Silhouette Gears, small-scale training units. He possesses powerful magical abilities across all elemental attributes and is a master of physical boost magic, making him a formidable fighter even on foot.
