Description
Aguri Sakurano is a second-year high school student with a vibrant and carefully curated appearance. She has long pink hair, which she dyed from its original black, and violet eyes. Her look is completed by two hair clips on the right side of her head and a black choker necklace. She wears the standard female school uniform but with a personal touch, preferring to leave her blazer unbuttoned, her ribbon loose, and wearing a yellow sweater underneath that nearly reaches the hem of her skirt.

Her background is rooted in a desire for connection that predates her stylish transformation. Prior to high school, Aguri was a quiet, unassuming "wallflower" who harbored feelings for Tasuku Uehara. Her love was sparked when he, despite his own nerdy and unremarkable appearance at the time, won her a plushie from a claw machine at an arcade. When they entered high school, she saw an opportunity to finally be with him. Upon noticing that Tasuku had undergone his own makeover to become popular and learning of his preference for a certain type of girl, Aguri decided to completely reinvent herself. She dyed her hair, changed her style, and adopted a more bubbly and outgoing personality to stand out and win his affection.

On the surface, Aguri presents herself as an immature, clingy, and somewhat ditzy girl. She is prone to jealousy and becomes easily distressed when she sees her boyfriend spending time with other girls like Karen Tendō or Chiaki Hoshinomori. Her energy is seemingly boundless, and she is often seen as cute and silly, wearing her heart on her sleeve. However, this airheaded behavior is, to a significant extent, an act. She adopted this persona because she had heard that it was the type of girl Tasuku was fond of. Beneath this facade, she is surprisingly perceptive and observant, particularly when it comes to emotional matters. She demonstrates a sharp awareness of social dynamics and often provides insightful, grounded advice to her friends, revealing a maturity that is not immediately obvious.

Aguri's primary motivation throughout the story is her deep and unwavering love for Tasuku Uehara. Everything she does, from changing her appearance to navigating complex social situations, is ultimately driven by a desire to be with him and to ensure his happiness. She is an incredibly loyal girlfriend, refusing to believe he would be unfaithful even when faced with circumstances that suggest otherwise. Her dedication is such that she is willing to put up with his secret hobby as a gamer, a world she herself has no interest in, simply because it is a part of who he is.

In the story, Aguri serves as a crucial catalyst for both drama and resolution. Her intense love for Tasuku and her anxieties about their relationship are a primary source of the series' central misunderstandings. More significantly, she forms a unique and powerful alliance with Keita Amano, the main protagonist. Initially suspicious of Keita, believing he is monopolizing Tasuku's time, she soon befriends him when he tries to alleviate her fears. This friendship evolves into the story's most stable and grounding relationship. They become "Platonic Life Partners," regularly meeting to discuss their respective romantic troubles, offering each other support, advice, and a safe space to be honest. Keita comes to value her wellbeing above even his most beloved video games, and Aguri finds the confidence to face her own anxieties when he is by her side. She acts as a confidante who can see through the chaos of misunderstandings that plague the other characters, often educating Keita on the nuances of feelings and relationships.

Her most important relationships are with Tasuku Uehara and Keita Amano. Her relationship with Tasuku is the central pillar of her life. While he initially finds her clinginess a bit annoying, his perception of her changes drastically when he learns the truth about her enduring love for him, which began long before his high school makeover. This revelation leads him to genuinely appreciate and cherish her. Her bond with Keita is equally significant but purely platonic. It is a partnership of mutual support where they help each other navigate their romantic lives, and this friendship even helps Aguri mature, allowing her to be more true to herself rather than constantly performing the role of an airhead for her boyfriend.

Aguri shows notable development over the course of the story. She begins as a girl so insecure that she feels the need to completely reinvent her personality to be loved. Through her interactions with Keita and the trials of her relationship with Tasuku, she gains confidence and maturity. She becomes more comfortable showing her true, more perceptive self. This growth is acknowledged by Tasuku, who notes that her friendship with Keita has had a positive influence on her. She evolves from a possessive, anxious girlfriend into a more secure partner who can face her problems with honesty and a supportive friend by her side.

While Aguri is not a gamer herself, her notable abilities lie in her social and emotional intelligence. She has a keen eye for observing the true nature of a situation, often laughing at incorrect assumptions others make about her relationships. She is capable of fiercely defending her friends, as seen when she jumps to Keita's defense against old classmates who mock him for his nerdy hobbies, asserting that he deserves respect. Her greatest strength is her capacity for loyalty, love, and forming a deep, supportive, and non-romantic bond that becomes the emotional core for several other characters.
