Description
Asaya Hasekura is a central figure in the story, initially introduced as a secondary character whose presence significantly influences the narrative's direction. He is a tall, slim, and exceptionally handsome teenage boy, often described as having a model-like appearance. His features include blond-copper hair and distinctive pinkish-brown eyes, and he generally maintains a fashionable and put-together look.

Beneath this polished exterior lies a personality shaped by a difficult past. As a child, Asaya was bullied for having feminine features, and he also suffered from emotional neglect and abuse within his own home following his parents' divorce. His mother’s cruel rejection of the family’s love left him with deep-seated trauma, making it difficult for him to feel positive emotions or trust in love. This history results in a public demeanor that is often aloof, quiet, and indifferent toward most people. He is known to keep a mask in place to hide his true feelings, a survival mechanism from his childhood.

The one significant exception to his reserved nature is Kensuke Ohshiba, his childhood friend and eventual boyfriend. When in Kensuke's company, Asaya reveals a much kinder, happier, and more vulnerable side. However, his feelings for Kensuke also manifest as intense possessiveness and jealousy, particularly regarding Kensuke's close friendship with Masahiro Setagawa. This possessiveness is a core part of his character, leading him to act coldly or irritably when he feels Kensuke’s attention is directed elsewhere. Despite these challenging traits, Asaya is not static. As the story progresses, he gradually learns to open up to others, becoming friendlier and more willing to socialize, which in turn boosts his already considerable popularity at school.

Asaya’s motivations are overwhelmingly tied to his relationship with Kensuke. After being forced to move away during their childhood, which led to a painful falling out, his primary goal upon reuniting with Kensuke in high school is to pursue a romantic relationship with him. He confesses his hidden feelings directly, making his intentions clear. In the story, he serves as a key figure in the romantic subplot alongside the main couple. His arrival and pursuit of Kensuke create much of the early dramatic tension, while his existing friendship with Kousuke Ohshiba, Kensuke’s older brother, helps to connect the different character dynamics. His role expands as he becomes a supportive, if sometimes grudging, friend to Masahiro, even offering him advice and shelter when needed.

His key relationships define his character arc. His bond with Kensuke is the most significant, evolving from broken childhood friendship to a romantic partnership that hits a critical low point. After a misunderstanding caused by his own pent-up negative feelings, Kensuke breaks up with him. During this separation, Asaya becomes cold, miserable, and neglects his own well-being. Their eventual reconciliation leads to a much healthier and happier relationship, which has a profound positive impact on Asaya’s overall demeanor and social interactions. His relationship with his older sister, Ayaka Houjou, is also important; they are the closest in their family and care for each other deeply, having bonded over their shared traumatic upbringing.

In terms of development, Asaya undergoes a significant transformation. He starts as a possessive and emotionally guarded individual, but through the trials of his relationship with Kensuke and his growing friendships with characters like Masahiro and Jirou Yoshida, he becomes more secure, positive, and openly kind. His journey is one of overcoming deep-seated insecurity and learning that he is capable of being truly loved. Regarding notable abilities, Asaya has no supernatural or combat skills to speak of. However, he is noted for having a large appetite and eating surprisingly quickly, and despite how much he consumes, he never gains weight. He also requires reading glasses and has a few specific fears, including a slight fear of cats and a stated fear of the ocean, which he feels might drag him in.
