Description
Maya Asagaya is a supporting character in the anime series Anime-Gataris, first introduced in the short OVA Anime Gatari. She is a high school student with short, light auburn hair and golden eyes, often seen with a pair of red glasses pushed up on her head. She is the older sister of Minoa Asagaya and the daughter of Shugo and Ai Asagaya.

Maya is characterized by her sarcastic sense of humor and her deep, passionate knowledge of anime. She is an enthusiastic otaku who frequently discusses anime with fellow club members, often offering sharp observations and witty remarks. Her personality tends to be energetic and extroverted, but she can also be spontaneous and easily distracted. Despite her sometimes critical attitude, she is a loyal and reliable member of the anime research club.

Her motivations are tied to her love for anime and her desire to share that passion with others. She actively participates in club activities, including trips to Akihabara, Comiket, and anime pilgrimage sites, and she helps in the club's efforts to avoid dissolution by the student council. Maya often serves as a source of comic relief through her sarcastic banter, especially in her interactions with her younger sister Minoa, with whom she has a friendly rivalry over differing anime opinions.

In terms of relationships, Maya is closest to her family, particularly her sister Minoa, and she also bonds with the other club members: Arisu Kamiigusa, Miko Kouenji, Kai Musashisakai, and Erika Aoyama. She is shown to be protective of the club and its goals, though she does not drive the main plot as much as Minoa or Arisu. Her role in the story is primarily that of a supportive club member and a voice of experience in anime culture.

Maya undergoes minimal character development over the series, remaining a consistent presence whose deep familiarity with anime helps ground the more inexperienced members. She has no extraordinary abilities; her notable traits are her extensive anime knowledge, her quick wit, and her ability to find humor in everyday situations.
