Description
Abe no Sōsei is the stoic and disciplined captain of the Yamainu Squad, the government’s elite unit formed to capture the vessel of the legendary serpent Orochi. As a descendant of the esteemed Abe family of master exorcists, he carries the ancestral sword passed down through his lineage. Though his family is known for spiritual arts, Sōsei chose the path of the sword, achieving a level of skill that rivals that of his childhood friend, Tenka Kumō. His personality is cool and collected, often appearing cold or ruthless, but this exterior masks a deep sense of duty and hidden kindness. His gloominess and lack of social skills stem from a lonely upbringing: he was separated from his parents at birth and raised in isolation without the typical comforts of childhood. Identified early as a candidate for the Orochi’s vessel, he initially viewed himself as a mere pawn in the mission to capture the serpent, but he rejected that destiny and embraced the dream of becoming a national hero, an aspiration influenced by his childhood friendship with Tenka and Kiiko Sasaki. Sōsei was a sworn ally of Tenka, and after Tenka left the unit to protect his younger brothers, Sōsei assumed command of the squad. He mentors Soramaru Kumō, Tenka’s younger brother, in swordsmanship, teaching him that crying is not a sign of weakness but a necessary way to process pain. His key relationships reveal deep loyalty and understanding: he shares a bond with Tenka marked by both deep understanding and frustration over Tenka’s solitary, self-sacrificing nature, once warning that even the sun becomes lonely when it cannot achieve what it desires. He also trusts Kiiko Sasaki with crucial tasks. Over time, Sōsei grows from a man who believed he was merely a tool for extermination into a leader who values camaraderie and the bonds he has formed. Standing 174 cm tall and weighing 59 kg, with blood type A and an October 25 birthday, he has a quiet hobby of stamp collecting, enjoys karashi renkon, and dislikes trivial chores and wasabi.
