Description
King, whose real name is Harlequin, is a central character in The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of The Commandments. He is the Fairy King and a member of the legendary group of knights, bearing the title of the Grizzly's Sin of Sloth. Despite his youthful and small-statured appearance, which resembles a child, King is in fact over 1,300 years old. He has the ability to alternate between this childlike form and a much taller, larger adult version of himself.
King’s personality is defined by a calm and sensible demeanor, though he is often juxtaposed against the more boisterous and eccentric actions of his companions, which can easily exasperate him. While he can appear lazy or nonchalant, often floating through the air instead of walking, this behavior belies a deeply caring and responsible nature. He carries a significant emotional burden, feeling intense guilt over his past failures to protect his home, the Fairy King's Forest, and his younger sister, Elaine. This sense of responsibility and his own insecurities make him a reluctant leader, but one who is fiercely protective of those he loves.
Within the story of Revival of The Commandments, King's primary motivations are rooted in protecting his friends and atoning for the sins of his past. The season forces him to confront these issues directly. After the Seven Deadly Sins are celebrated for saving the kingdom, King follows his comrade Ban to the Fairy King's Forest, a place haunted by the memory of Elaine's death. Here, he struggles to defend the forest from powerful demonic threats like the giant Albion, and he must reconcile his past blame of Ban for Elaine's demise, eventually forgiving him and reforging their friendship.
King’s most significant relationships are with his fellow sins. His bond with Diane, the Serpent's Sin of Envy, is a long-standing and complicated one. He harbors deep romantic feelings for her but often struggles to express them directly, partly due to his own emotional guardedness and past mistakes, including having once erased her memories. His relationship with Meliodas, the captain of the Seven Deadly Sins, evolves from initial distrust due to Meliodas's demonic nature to one of deep respect and loyalty. His friendship with Ban is also central, transforming from bitter enmity over Elaine's death to a strong camaraderie based on shared love for her and mutual understanding.
The Revival of The Commandments arc is a crucial period of development for King. Facing the overwhelming power of the Ten Commandments, he is forced to grow beyond his previous limits. He undergoes trials set by the original Fairy King, Gloxinia, and the Giant King, Drole, which allow him to finally grow his wings, a rite of passage he had never achieved in his 1,300 years of life. This evolution unlocks his true potential, giving him access to the full power of the Sacred Tree and his Spirit Spear. Once his wings are fully grown, his power increases dramatically, with Gloxinia himself acknowledging that King is capable of surpassing all previous Fairy Kings and becoming the strongest in history. This transformation also matures his appearance, making him look older and more formidable.
King's notable abilities are almost entirely magical. He possesses a unique magical power called Disaster, which allows him to manipulate and exaggerate any natural phenomenon. He can turn a minor scratch into a fatal wound, accelerate the growth of plants, or cure diseases. His primary weapon is the Spirit Spear Chastiefol, a sacred treasure crafted from the Sacred Tree of the Fairy Realm. Chastiefol has multiple forms, each with a distinct ability. Its default state is a floating pillow that King rides on, but it can transform into a powerful spear, a giant guardian teddy bear, a petrifying twin spear, a sunflower that fires energy beams, and many other configurations. As a fairy, King possesses inherent abilities such as flight, levitation, and minor shapeshifting. Despite his immense magical power, which has a recorded level of 3,370, he is physically very weak, a deficiency he compensates for with the telekinetic control of Chastiefol and his strategic intelligence.
