TV-Series
Description
Estarossa is a central antagonist from the second major story arc of the series, introduced as a member of the Ten Commandments, the elite warrior force directly under the Demon King. He holds the commandment of "Love." Physically, Estarossa bears a striking resemblance to the wanted posters of Meliodas, the leader of the Seven Deadly Sins. He has silver-white hair and the typical black eyes of the Demon clan, and his demonic mark is located on his left forehead, opposite of Meliodas. He is tall and usually seen in a blue or brown outfit with metal gloves.

His personality is a complex and dangerous mixture of languid calm and intense, often violent obsession. Estarossa typically appears lazy, soft-spoken, and even courteous, rarely showing serious effort in combat. However, this demeanor masks a deep-seated and twisted personality. He is defined by a powerful "brother complex," harboring a deep admiration and love for his older brother, Meliodas. When Meliodas betrayed the Demon Clan, this love transformed into a profound hatred and a fixation on personally killing him. Estarossa's motivations are primarily emotional and personal rather than ideological. While he serves the Demon King's goal of conquering Britannia, his actions are largely driven by his obsession with Meliodas and his long-held, one-sided love for Elizabeth, the same woman his brother loves. This jealousy and desire for revenge fuel his relentless pursuit of the Seven Deadly Sins.

In the story, Estarossa is a major threat to the Seven Deadly Sins. His most notable early act is the brutal murder of Meliodas, stabbing him through all seven of his hearts with swords created from his dark power. This act solidifies his role as a primary antagonist for the other Sins. He later leads the assault on the kingdom of Liones, where he comes into direct conflict with Escanor, the Lion's Sin of Pride. This battle is a turning point, as Escanor's immense power, which grows from sunrise to noon, proves to be one of the few forces capable of overwhelming Estarossa.

His relationships are central to his character. His bond with Meliodas is the most critical, defined by a tragic cycle of love, admiration, jealousy, and murderous intent. He also has a connection with his younger brother, Zeldris, who in turn respects Estarossa greatly. A key relationship is his one-sided affection for Elizabeth, which he believes was sabotaged by Meliodas, adding another layer to his hatred.

The character undergoes a significant and shocking development. As he absorbs more Commandments, his mental state, already fragile due to the corrupting influence of the "Love" commandment, deteriorates rapidly. He becomes increasingly unstable and delusional, eventually believing himself to be Meliodas. This leads to the ultimate twist regarding his character: Estarossa's entire identity as a demon is a fabrication. His true identity is Mael, the strongest of the Four Archangels of the Goddess Clan. His memories were altered and sealed by the demon Gowther, turning him into a demon who believed he was the second son of the Demon King.

Estarossa possesses a formidable and versatile set of abilities. His most prominent power is his own version of Full Counter, a technique that can reflect any physical attack back at the opponent with increased force. This is the opposite of Meliodas's Full Counter, which reflects magical attacks. He can use Hellblaze, the dark, inextinguishable flames of the demon realm, and create "Rebellion," a set of multiple swords from darkness. His signature power is his Commandment of "Love": anyone who harbors hatred in his presence is immediately rendered unable to inflict harm on others. This ability makes him invincible against opponents driven by anger or spite. However, it is ineffective against those who do not feel hatred, such as Escanor, who viewed him with pity rather than malice. After absorbing other Commandments, he gains additional powers, including "The Truth" which dispels illusions and "The Silence" which seals the magic of those it cuts. The revelation of his true identity as Mael also explains his natural affinity for light and his supposed "lost" grace, Sunshine, the divine power that had been used by Escanor.
