Green, a Pokémon Trainer from Kanto driven to complete the Pokédex by capturing Mewtwo, surveys Cerulean Cave through binoculars from Nugget Bridge. Spotting Trace entering the cave with the same goal, she pursues but is halted by five Trainers guarding the bridge. Green battles them simultaneously using Gengar and Kangaskhan, defeating them before proceeding.
Navigating Cerulean Cave's hazards, Green employs Blastoise to cross waterways and Victreebel to swing across gaps. She encounters Trace and assists him by dispersing a Zubat and Golbat swarm with Victreebel's Razor Leaf. Trace thanks her but warns others also seek Mewtwo.
In the cave's depths, Green mistakes Elaine for a Pokémon in the darkness and tosses a Poké Ball. Discovering Elaine has already captured Mewtwo, Green challenges her to battle. She deploys Clefable, defeated by Elaine's Pikachu using Zippy Zap. Green then sends out Ninetales against Elaine's Rapidash, overpowering it with Flamethrower. Insisting Elaine reveal Mewtwo, Green Mega Evolves Blastoise and attacks with Hydro Pump. Mewtwo blocks with Protect, counters with Psychic, and defeats Blastoise with Aura Sphere.
