Description
Favaro Leone is a central figure who first appears as the protagonist of the previous story before taking on a vital supporting role in Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul. A human bounty hunter by trade, he is easily recognized by his vibrant orange hair styled into a large afro, his green eyes, and a prominent X-shaped scar across his face. Following the cataclysmic events that concluded his first journey, which resulted in the loss of his right leg, he uses a mechanical prosthetic in its place. By the time of Virgin Soul, which takes place a decade later, his appearance has matured to include a full beard.

At his core, Favaro is a self-proclaimed ladies' man and a drifter who treasures his freedom above all else. He openly claims to look out for only himself and dislikes being burdened with responsibility for others, a trait he demonstrated early on when he refused to inherit his father's position as a bandit leader. He is also a chronic and accomplished liar, using deception and trickery to navigate difficult situations and lower the guard of his enemies. Despite this rogueish and untrustworthy facade, he possesses a deep-seated and genuine care for his friends, consistently placing himself in grave danger if it means he might save them. This duality defines him; he is a swindler with a heart of gold. A decade has not dulled his wit or his humor, and he remains a crafty and unpredictable individual, though his actions are now heavily motivated by a lingering longing for a lost love. He has become surprisingly perceptive and sympathetic toward others experiencing similar romantic turmoil, even offering unexpected understanding to those he might have once outright opposed.

His personal motivation has shifted profoundly by the time of Virgin Soul. Having previously chosen the fate of the world over the life of a girl he loved, Amira, he lives with deep regret for that decision. He is now on a secret, personal journey, driven by the belief that Amira still exists somewhere and that the legendary dragon Bahamut is not truly dead. This quest to find her colors his every action, and he has come to champion the idea of choosing love over duty to the world, a philosophy he imparts to others. His role in the story is primarily that of a mentor and a wildcard ally. He is the former master of the new protagonist, Nina Drango, whom he trained in the bounty hunting trade during a brief stay in her village. At the outset of the series, he is found as a long-term prisoner in the royal capital, though the exact reasons for his capture remain unclear. From his cell, he provides crucial support to his old companions and his young apprentice, offering guidance, aiding in escapes, and leveraging his unique knowledge of the world's deeper secrets. He serves as a vital link between the past and present conflicts, helping to rally the previous generation's heroes.

Favaro's key relationships are the emotional anchors of his character. His bond with Nina Drango is central, where he acts as a paternal and humorous mentor. He sees something of himself and his own story in her forbidden love for the king, offering her not combat training but wisdom on following her heart, no matter the cost. His friendship with Kaisar Lidfard is one of the most enduring in the series. Once childhood friends torn apart by a tragedy involving their fathers that turned them into bitter rivals, they eventually reconciled to face a common enemy. By the events of Virgin Soul, their friendship has been fully restored, with their bickering camaraderie serving as a familiar constant. His memory of Amira is the ghost that guides him; their tragic romance and the promise he made to her are the driving forces behind his decade-long search. Finally, his relationship with King Charioce XVII is complex and pragmatic. Though initially a prisoner, Favaro comes to understand the king's harsh motivations and, valuing Nina's happiness above all else, chooses to support the king's ultimate goal and protect the secret of his actions.

Throughout his journey, Favaro undergoes significant development. He transforms from a selfish bounty hunter who rejected any form of responsibility into a man whose primary purpose is a selfless, albeit forlorn, search for the woman he loves. Having literally lost a leg to save the world, he has gained a new perspective, prioritizing personal bonds over abstract ideals. He matures from a brash trickster into a wily, seasoned survivor who uses his cunning not just for personal gain but to protect the next generation and pursue a love that transcends death itself. His notable abilities lie not in raw strength but in his ingenuity and combat versatility. He is a highly perceptive fighter who often wins battles with his wits before ever drawing a weapon. He is a skilled swordsman, preferring a dagger that he wields with deadly efficiency against larger opponents. He also possesses excellent marksmanship with a repeating crossbow and demonstrates impressive acrobatic and hand-to-hand combat skills. Fundamentally, he is a trickster who uses deception, manipulation of his environment, and psychological warfare to emerge victorious against overwhelming odds.
