Description
Edytha Rossmann is a veteran witch from Karlsland who serves as a senior member and primary instructor of the 502nd Joint Fighter Wing. She was born in Gera, near the border with Ostmark, on January 11th. A serious illness during her childhood permanently stunted her growth, leaving her with a petite build of approximately 150 centimeters and reduced physical strength, making her one of the smallest members of the unit despite being the eldest. This physical frailty initially barred her from military service, as she could not meet the standard recruitment standards. However, the outbreak of the Neuroi in Hispania forced the military to relax its physical requirements for witches with excellent magical abilities, allowing her to finally enlist and achieve her dream of becoming an aviation witch.

Edytha possesses a cheerful and forward-looking personality, maintaining an optimistic demeanor in everyday life. On the battlefield or when supervising training, she becomes a serious and responsible commanding presence. Her fighting style is characterized as clever and methodical, born from necessity. Unable to rely on strength or the high-speed maneuvers of traditional dogfighting for extended periods, she developed a tactical approach based on patient observation of the enemy from a distance, identifying a critical weak point, striking with a single decisive blow, and then immediately disengaging. This efficient strategy conserves energy and ammunition, and was noticed by Wing Commander Mölders, who worked with Edytha to formalize it into the Rotte tactics, a two-witch team strategy well-suited for use with newer striker units like the Bf109.

Edytha is widely recognized as a superb instructor with a talent for deftly influencing and teaching others, leading to her being affectionately referred to as teacher within the 502nd Joint Fighter Wing. Her core teaching philosophy drills into new pilots that a true ace should rely not on raw nerve or innate genius, but on a reliable and repeatable combat methodology. Despite having a confirmed Neuroi kill count of less than 100, which is a comparatively low number for a member of the Karlsland Air Force, her abilities are still evaluated as those of a top ace. She acknowledges her own physical limitations and expresses a desire to see the students she has trained eventually surpass her own record. Although she suffers from a lack of physical power, it is rumored that a stronger true form can surface when she is in a dire situation.

Edytha shares several key relationships within the 502nd. She shares a close friendship with Waltrud Krupinski, which often manifests as Edytha constantly having to keep Krupinski excesses and womanizing in check, particularly protecting younger recruits. She also has a significant history as the mentor of Erica Hartmann, who would later become humanity strongest ace, having taught the future pilot most of the basics of dogfighting and serving as her wingman for a short period early in Hartmann career. In the story of Brave Witches, she serves as the primary instructor for the protagonist Hikari Karibuchi, teaching her how to properly use her magic and control her striker unit. She also has a notable fondness for caviar, often stockpiling a large supply and becoming short-tempered if it is wasted frivolously. Her familiar is a fox, typically manifesting as red fox ears and a tail when she uses her magic.

Edytha notable abilities are rooted in her exceptional level of magical control and technical acumen. Her mastery is so advanced that she can use her magic shield to walk across water as if it were land, a feat far beyond simply using the shield as a momentary stepping stone. Furthermore, she can teach the principles required for other witches to achieve this level of control, as well as how to use a shield as a handhold to climb smooth vertical surfaces. Her standard equipment includes the Messerschmitt Bf-109 G-2 striker unit. She initially used the MG 42 machine gun as her armament but later transitioned to the Fliegerhammer rocket launcher. This change was to compensate for a decline in her magical power due to age and to better support her 502nd comrades, who largely specialize in close-range combat, allowing her to adopt a support role from a distance.
