Description
No. 18, also referred to as Android 18, is a cyborg created by Dr. Gero who appears in the anime film Dragon Ball Z: Bio-Broly. Originally a human named Lazuli, she was forcefully modified with an infinite energy reactor and enhanced organic components, giving her superhuman strength, speed, durability, and the ability to perform energy attacks such as ki blasts and a destructive disc technique. In the film, which takes place after the Cell Games and her marriage to Krillin, No. 18 accompanies Mr. Satan to the island laboratory of Lord Jaguar to collect a debt of 20 million Zeni for deliberately losing to him in the World Martial Arts Tournament. She brings along her husband Krillin, their daughter Marron, and the young warriors Trunks and Goten. Her personality is pragmatic, sarcastic, and financially motivated; she consistently pressures Mr. Satan for payment and even increases her fee during the crisis. When the genetically engineered clone Bio-Broly is unleashed, No. 18 attempts to fight but is quickly overwhelmed by the creature’s power and regenerative abilities, requiring rescue by Krillin. She later assists Goten and Trunks in the battle, though she is ultimately defeated again before the trio devises a plan to use seawater to neutralize the bio-fluid. Her relationship with Krillin is shown to be warm and supportive, with Krillin rushing to protect her. No. 18’s role in the story is that of a pragmatic ally who is drawn into the conflict primarily by financial interest, but she remains a capable fighter despite being outmatched. The film does not explore her deeper character development, instead depicting her as already settled into family life while retaining her independent and mercenary attitude. Her notable abilities include her infinite stamina, physical power that allowed her to defeat Super Saiyan Vegeta in earlier events, and her capacity to fire energy waves and barriers, though in this movie her combat effectiveness is limited by the unique nature of the Bio-Broly threat.
