Originally named Lazuli, Android 18 is a human transformed into a cyborg by Dr. Gero of the Red Ribbon Army, alongside her twin brother, Android 17. Designed as an instrument of vengeance against Goku, she and her brother rebelled immediately upon activation, killing their creator. Though initially aligned with destructive aims, her priorities shifted, leading her to ally with the Z Fighters and eventually marry Krillin, with whom she has a daughter, Marron.
In her early appearances, she projected cool confidence marked by sarcasm and dry humor. Her personality blends stoicism with financial pragmatism, frequently urging Krillin to compete in tournaments for prize money. Despite her reserved exterior, she exhibits strong protectiveness towards her family, especially Marron, and maintains a close bond with Android 17. Her transition from antagonist to hero preserved her tactical honesty and independence, while fostering loyalty to Earth and its defenders.
Her combat abilities derive from Dr. Gero’s bio-organic enhancements, granting superhuman strength, speed, flight, energy projection, and limitless stamina via a perpetual energy reactor. These cellular-level modifications allow unimpaired biological functions, including reproduction. Her high durability and combat skills enable her to contend with formidable opponents across multiple sagas.
During the Cell Saga, Cell absorbed her to achieve his perfect form, later regurgitating her during his battle with Gohan. Following Cell’s defeat, Krillin used the Dragon Balls to remove her self-destruct mechanism, solidifying their relationship. By the Buu Saga, she married Krillin and became a full-time Earth protector, though she and Marron were temporarily killed by Majin Buu before revival.
In Dragon Ball Super, she joined the Tournament of Power primarily for financial reward but ultimately fought earnestly to protect her universe. During Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, she battled the Red Ribbon Army’s new androids and Cell Max, arriving with Krillin, Goten, Trunks, and Bulma as reinforcements. Her involvement highlighted her ongoing role as Earth's defender and integration into the fighter community.
Her relationship with Krillin evolved from mutual attraction to a stable marriage. Their dynamic balances her assertiveness with Krillin’s devotion, often reflected in her encouragement of his training and their shared parenting of Marron. She maintains a pragmatic approach to life, emphasizing self-sufficiency while demonstrating underlying care for family and allies.
