Description
Honey is inmate number 82 at Nanba Prison, where he is held in Building Three, Cell Six alongside his partner, Trois. His background prior to incarceration is largely unspecified, but he was arrested for an undisclosed crime. Before arriving at Nanba, Honey was imprisoned in multiple other facilities with Trois. The pair frequently escaped using violent and destructive methods, which eventually led to their transfer to Nanba. At some point, he and Trois were caught by the guard Shin while attempting to steal underwear from the women's prison.
Honey is a young man with a lean build, fair skin, and a handsome appearance. He has emerald-green eyes and a small beauty mark beneath his left eye. His hair is purple with pink tips, styled with the left bangs slicked back while the right side is brushed over his face. When angered, strands of his hair emerge that resemble devil's tails, tipped with red and yellow. He wears gold bar earrings in each ear and has a red tattoo on the left side of his neck depicting a heart split horizontally down the middle. His fingernails are painted purple. He wears the standard white inmate jumpsuit often accessorized with a black necktie, thin black armbands on each arm, and a black apron around his waist. His ID badge is pinned to his left chest.
On the surface, Honey is portrayed as well-mannered, cool-headed, and extremely cocky. He possesses a great amount of confidence in his abilities and his appearance, openly considering himself to be the best-looking man in Nanba. This initial calm demeanor, however, belies a short-tempered and irascible nature. Honey loses his temper easily, and when angered, he becomes highly aggressive and vulgar, prone to excessive profanity and pointing his middle finger at those who irritate him. He is also very stubborn, famously refusing to accept his loss to Uno during the New Year's Tournament and attributing any subsequent defeats to cheating. Honey can be highly selfish, once refusing to save fellow inmates from a perilous situation simply because he did not want to waste his tools. He also dislikes things that are not clear-cut and is highly suspicious of others, particularly Jyugo, because he finds himself unable to read the younger inmate's motivations or expressions.
A notable and recurring aspect of Honey's personality is his strong, perverted interest in women. He does not hesitate to ask women, even complete strangers, about the color of their lower undergarments. Ironically, he considers Trois's similar behavior, which focuses on upper undergarments, to be far more perverted.
Honey's motivations largely stem from his pride, his desire to appear cool and attractive, and his frustration with anything he cannot understand. He is driven to assert his superiority and becomes easily enraged when that self-image is challenged. His suspicion of Jyugo, who remains impassive and unreadable, is a persistent source of antagonism.
In the story, Honey's cell is chosen to participate in the New Year's Tournament, where he and Trois compete in a Hyakunin Isshu card game against Uno. Despite their teamwork and attempts to swap places, Uno decisively defeats them by reading Honey's quirks and habits. Following this, he and Trois are invited to help build Uno's recreation room, where Honey becomes excited by the addition of dartboards and participates in games with the other inmates. Later, he accompanies Trois and Kiji to Building Five for extra training, which results in the group being captured and imprisoned in the Gogyousan Underground Prison. After being freed by Jyugo, Honey joins the escape effort. During this arc, his frustration with Jyugo reaches a peak as he perceives the inmate as a useless burden, even attempting to punch him and suggesting the group abandon him.
Honey's key relationship is with his cellmate, Trois. The two are almost always together, having been partners across multiple prisons. While they work well together and Honey explains Trois's past to others, he is also quick to criticize him. He has a strong rivalry with Uno, refusing to accept his defeat and constantly accusing him of cheating. His primary antagonism is directed at Jyugo, whose stoic and unreadable nature deeply frustrates Honey and prevents any significant bond from forming.
Over the course of the story, Honey shows little fundamental change in his arrogance or short temper. His development is more situational, as his initial cool and polished facade is repeatedly shattered by his quick anger, particularly in competitive or stressful situations. His time in the underground prison forces him to work alongside those he distrusts, exposing the limits of his patience and his willingness to prioritize his own survival and convenience over teamwork.
Honey possesses several notable abilities. He is highly skilled with a unique tool that resembles a bullet, which contains fine, strong wires. He uses these wire bullets to check for guards, set traps, capture opponents, and facilitate escapes. He is also an excellent darts player, a skill he boasts about and enjoys. Furthermore, he has a keen ability to read people and discern their personalities, which makes his inability to understand Jyugo all the more frustrating to him. He is also described as a good planner, capable of devising strategies to capture guards.
