TV-Series
Description
The Dullahan encountered by Kazuma’s party is named Beldia, a high-ranking general serving directly under the Demon King. As a Dullahan, his most defining physical trait is his detachable head, which he can remove and hold under his arm or even throw into the air to gain a strategic aerial view of the battlefield. Despite his fearsome and monstrous appearance, Beldia possesses a surprisingly sensible and honorable personality. He maintains a high sense of pride as a knight, a remnant of his former life, and generally refrains from harming civilians, preferring to face only those who challenge him directly.

His primary motivation throughout his appearance in the series is not world conquest, but a more mundane and irritated quest for peace and quiet. He moves into a ruined castle near the town of Axel to conduct a specific investigation. However, his new home becomes the daily target of Megumin’s Explosion magic, which she casts relentlessly for her own enjoyment. Initially, Beldia dismisses these attacks as the meaningless actions of a fool, but as the shelling continues day after day without cease, his patience wears thin. His actions are driven largely by a desire to stop the explosions and restore order to his base of operations, as well as to uphold a twisted sense of chivalric honor.

Beldia serves as the first major antagonist the party faces, presenting a threat far beyond the giant toads and dull monsters they had previously handled. He is the catalyst for one of the story’s early serious arcs, forcing Kazuma and his companions to confront a true agent of the Demon King’s army. His role demonstrates the gap in power between beginner adventurers and the Demon King’s forces, while also highlighting the party’s unique and unconventional methods of overcoming overwhelming odds.

His key relationships are defined by his encounters with the main cast. He develops a particular respect for Darkness, referring to her as a paragon of knighthood for her willingness to shield her comrades, though he is visibly perturbed by her masochistic tendencies. In contrast, he views Megumin as an infuriating nuisance, calling her a crazy fool for her obsession with explosion magic. He shares a brief but notable history with Wiz, the undead lich who runs a shop in Axel; during their time together in the Demon King’s castle, he would frequently harass her by rolling his severed head at her feet in an attempt to look up her skirt. His most significant conflict is with Aqua, an archpriest whose holy purification magic is a Dullahan’s natural weakness, making her his ultimate nemesis.

In terms of development, Beldia’s character is static but serves as a catalyst for the party’s growth. He begins as a composed and arrogant general, but through the sheer absurdity of his situation, devolves into a frustrated and furious antagonist. His plan to curse Megumin backfires when Darkness intercepts the spell, leading him to issue an ultimatum for the party to come to his castle. However, he is unaware that Aqua dispelled the curse immediately. This leads to his final, humiliating defeat when he attacks Axel in a rage, only to be outsmarted by Kazuma and purified by Aqua. He is notable for being one of the few antagonists whose defeat is not just a matter of power, but of being completely outmaneuvered by the party’s chaos.

As a Dullahan, Beldia commands a suite of formidable and thematic abilities. He possesses potent necromancy, allowing him to summon an entire legion of undead knights to fight on his behalf. His signature power is a curse called Premonition of Death, which sentences a victim to die within one week. Despite his power, he has two critical vulnerabilities: the holy magic of an archpriest, which can purify and destroy his undead body, and running water, which significantly weakens him. The Demon King has granted him a special blessing that grants him partial resistance to holy attacks, but this cannot completely negate his inherent weaknesses.
