TV-Series
Description
The judge who presides over nearly every trial in the Ace Attorney series is a character whose real name is never revealed. He is an elderly man with a kind and well-meaning disposition, but he is also remarkably naive and gullible. His personality provides much of the courtroom comedy; he is absent-minded, has poor hearing, and is completely out of touch with modern technology. He has never understood the concept of email, was bewildered by a digital camera, and once wasted an entire day searching for his dentures only to realize they were already in his mouth. This sometimes-bumbling nature leads to frequent comical misunderstandings, but it also makes him an open-minded arbiter who can be swayed by a compelling argument, earning him nicknames like Judge Fickle.

Despite his apparent confusion, the judge is a wise and deeply fair individual who is said to always deliver the correct verdict without fail. He believes that every case creates its own world, and to understand the truth, one must fully immerse themselves in that world. This emotional involvement is what distinguishes him from his brother, who is also a judge and treats cases strictly by the book. His fairness stems from a past lesson; during the second KG-8 Incident, he testified against a detective, only to have young prosecutor Miles Edgeworth prove his testimony was full of unintentional mistakes. The experience gave him great sympathy for witnesses and reinforced his commitment to exploring every angle of a case.

The judge's primary role is the highest authority in the courtroom, presiding over the legal battles and handing down the final verdict. He forms key relationships with the recurring attorneys and prosecutors. While he has a soft spot for charming or intimidating figures, he is notably terrified of Franziska von Karma, cowering under her whip and forgetting he outranks her, and he was once frightened enough by the loud criminal Furio Tigre to hide under his own bench. He also tends to favor experienced prosecutors like Edgeworth, though this bias never prevents him from reaching a fair conclusion. Over the course of the series, the judge shows small signs of development, such as taking his brother's advice to study harder more seriously as he ages. He has proven capable of speaking Spanish and, despite his old-fashioned nature, possesses the legal knowledge and stamina to preside over complex, multi-day trials without fatigue.
