Description
Echizen is a female high school student and a supporting character. She stands out immediately for her chosen aesthetic, which is modeled after a Yankee or Japanese delinquent. This is most visibly marked by her uniform, as she refuses to wear the standard short skirt and instead always wears a long one, even keeping it on when it gets soaked in the rain. She has short, chin-length blonde hair and brown eyes, and her expression is often a slight scowl, reinforcing her tough image. Despite this, her physical appearance hides a personality filled with notable contradictions.

The core of Echizens character is the stark contrast between her tough exterior and her genuinely soft, caring, and even girly interior. While she acts aggressive and rebellious, she is in fact incredibly loyal, pure of heart, and has a deep love for cute things. This extends to her private life, where her bedroom is decorated in a cute and girly style, a stark difference from her public persona. Her affection for adorable objects is so strong that she often cannot bring herself to eat cute handmade sweets, such as animal-shaped cookies from her friend Miyano, and has been known to keep them until they spoil rather than spoil their perfect appearance.

Echizen has known Ohta since kindergarten, and they are next-door neighbors. This long-standing friendship is a key part of her background, though they drifted apart somewhat before high school, likely due to attending different middle schools. She is also the only main character in a different class from the central group, being placed in Class 1-E. Her motivation to adopt a delinquent look stems from a specific childhood event. When she was young and had a quiet, princess-like demeanor, an unknown older delinquent girl defended her from being teased. Inspired by this act of strength, she decided to change her dream and become a delinquent herself, viewing it as a symbol of power and protection.

In the story, Echizens role is initially defined by her connection to Ohta and her fierce protectiveness over her best friend, Miyano. She has a very deep and affectionate friendship with Miyano, whom she lovingly calls by a nickname. When she learns that Miyano admires the perpetually listless Tanaka, believing him to be mature, Echizen becomes antagonistic toward him. She challenges Tanaka to prove his worth, wanting to ensure he is deserving of Mianos admiration. Over time, her tough demeanor softens as she integrates further into the friend group. A subtle but recurring element of her development is her hidden romantic feelings for Ohta. She often acts awkward or shy around him, hinting at a crush, but Ohta remains completely oblivious to her hints.

Echizen possesses a few notable and quirky abilities that match her personality. She is very skilled at writing letters using a brush pen, though the content and tone of her writing always come out sounding like a challenge letter for a fight, no matter the intended message. Her dedication to her chosen image is also a kind of ability in itself; she will refuse to adopt modern conveniences, like a cell phone, if she feels they do not fit her rebellious Yankee ideal, preferring to stick to her own strict principles.
