Description
Mari Kurihara, known by the nickname Crow-User Mari, is a third-year student at Hachimitsu Academy and the president of the Underground Student Council, an unsanctioned organization that enforces the school’s traditional rules from behind the scenes. She is the daughter of the school chairman and the older sister of Chiyo Kurihara. Mari is a tall and lithe young woman often described as one of the most beautiful students at the school, with long black hair, blue eyes, and a dignified bearing.

Mari’s personality is defined by pride, dignity, and a commanding sense of authority. She is calm, controlled, and highly intelligent, displaying cunning and strategic thinking throughout the series. Despite her stoic exterior, she is genuinely kind and nurturing underneath, particularly toward those she considers her charges. Her strained relationship with her perverted father has led to a deep-seated distrust of men, which initially fuels her misandrist behavior. However, as the story progresses, she learns to socialize with male students and even empathize with them. She feels a strong personal responsibility for maintaining the integrity of Hachimitsu Academy and protecting her friends and subordinates.

At the start of the story, Mari serves as the main antagonist, orchestrating the imprisonment and punishment of the five male students after they are caught voyeuristically spying on female students. She uses her authority and cunning to keep them confined and under control. As the narrative unfolds, her role shifts. After conflicts with the Aboveground Student Council and a secret filming incident that threatens her, she allies with the boys and becomes the lead protagonist during the Sports Festival arc. Her motivations evolve from enforcing strict gender separation to defending the school and her allies against greater threats.

Mari’s most notable ability is her control over crows, which she can command for intimidation, surveillance, and assistance. She is also highly athletic, skilled in aikido, and known for her exceptional intelligence and leadership. Her strategic mind allows her to outthink opponents and orchestrate complex plans. She possesses a natural charisma that inspires loyalty in her followers.

Key relationships shape her character. She shares a close bond with Meiko Shiraki, having helped Meiko gain confidence and stand up to bullying during their elementary school days, and the two have remained close friends ever since. Her relationship with her sister Chiyo is warm and supportive, though they have grown distant from their father. She also confronts and opposes Kate Takenomiya, who bullied Meiko in middle school. Mari’s development is marked by a gradual reconciliation with the male students and her family, leading to emotional growth and a more nuanced understanding of the people around her.
