Description
Arata Inanaki is an exorcist who holds the position of Taijō, or Great Constant, within the Twelve Guardians, an elite group protecting the world from malevolent spirits. He also serves as the head of the Inanaki House, one of the families that constitute the Twelve Guardians, and this house is specifically tasked with monitoring the activities of impurities in Magano, the dangerous alternate dimension where exorcists fight. As the head of his family, Arata is responsible for running and managing the Seiyoin, the academy where exorcists are trained.

In terms of appearance, Arata is a young man with dark blue hair that partially covers his right eye, and he typically wears a blue and white uniform with oversized sleeves. While he carries himself with the absolute confidence and pride befitting a member of the Twelve Guardians, maintaining a calm and fixed facial expression even in serious situations, his personality has notable contradictions. Despite his serious portrayal, he has a habit of adding the affectionate suffix tan to people's names, referring to both the protagonist Benio Adashino and the leader of the exorcists, Arima Tsuchimikado, in this familiar way. This quirk is compounded by his love for the BonBonBina Magical Girls show, which he enjoys to the extent of purchasing a related T-shirt for ten thousand yen, suggesting he is an otaku. This enthusiasm extends to his personal life, as he has been seen wearing a shirt featuring a magical girl-like character.

Arata’s role in the story is largely tied to his status as a senior and powerful exorcist. He is an old acquaintance of several key figures, having been friends with Arima Tsuchimikado, Narumi Ioroi, and Seigen Amawaka during their schooling years at an exorcist academy approximately twenty-eight years before the main events of the series. This history places him in the same generation as these influential characters. In combat, Arata can manifest his powers by enchanting a book with a Hundred Knowledge Talisman, an ability known as Taikun Jouko. He also possesses a technique called Torrential Grudge Restraint. However, despite his evident skill, he sometimes seems to fight without much motivation, and on one occasion, a match with his old friend Narumi Ioroi ended in a draw because both combatants claimed to have lost.

Throughout the story, Arata is depicted as someone who provides support and information from the rear lines. He was present to witness the shocking simultaneous appearance of multiple Basara, a powerful class of enemy, in Magano and was responsible for delivering this grave news to other exorcists. He was also instructed by Arima Tsuchimikado to step forward and take on the role of explanation and support for others. Arata experiences significant development through loss, as he is shown shedding tears over the death of his longtime friend Narumi Ioroi and is saddened to learn of the death of Arima Tsuchimikado, demonstrating the deep bonds he shares with his peers despite his usually stoic exterior.
