Nicolas Roye

Description
Nicolas Roye is an American voice actor known for his extensive work in anime dubbing, animation, and video games. Born on August 24, 1977, he began his career with a foundation in theatre, having graduated from the University of New Orleans in 1999 where he won a Best Actor award for his stage performance. Before transitioning to voice acting, he pursued a music career in New York as the lead singer of a band called The Evening. After moving to Los Angeles, he took acting lessons at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, which led to minor on-screen roles before he entered the voice-over industry around 2008.

Roye has become a prominent figure in English dubs of popular anime series. He is recognized for his versatility, often voicing characters with distinct personalities. In the long-running franchise Bungo Stray Dogs, he voices the powerful Port Mafia executive Chuuya Nakahara, a role he has reprised across multiple series including the main show, Bungo Stray Dogs Wan!, and the film Bungo Stray Dogs: Dead Apple. He also plays the cunning and manipulative Tetta Kisaki in Tokyo Revengers and the stoic swordsman Hatz in Tower of God. In the My Next Life as a Villainess franchise, he provides the voice for the gentle and charming Nicol Ascart.

Beyond these prominent roles, his anime filmography is diverse. He voices Shinki in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Masato Sanada in High School Prodigies Have It Easy Even in Another World, and Ichi in Good Night World. He has also been involved in major franchises like Digimon, playing Yamato Matt Ishida in Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna, and Jun Guevara in Baki Hanma. His work extends to beloved classic series, having voiced Shingo Tsukino in both the original Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon Crystal.

In a 2023 interview, Roye described the difference between dubbing anime and working on original English productions. He noted that anime work often involves matching the existing Japanese performance, whereas video games and American animation allow him to sculpt a character from scratch. This skillset is evident in his acclaimed video game performances. He is widely known as the voice of the high-octane legend Octavio Octane Silva in Apex Legends and as the emotionally resonant Pilot Echo-216 in Halo Infinite, a role for which he performed motion capture. His other voice work includes Toji Fushiguro and Junpei in Jujutsu Kaisen, and Captain Shiraki in Terminator Zero.
