Description
Hinahoho is a prominent character from the anime and manga Magi: Adventure of Sinbad, as well as the larger Magi series. Standing at an imposing 240 centimeters tall, he is a giant of a man from the Imuchakk, a tribe of warriors who live in an unexplored region of the far north. His long blue hair, often tied in a ponytail, and amber-colored eyes are distinctive features, as is the large horn from a Rampaging Unicorn that he carries as his primary weapon. His physique is a product of his heritage, possessing whale-like skin to reduce friction in water and muscles with eighty percent more protein than average, allowing him to hold his breath for over an hour. Despite his fearsome appearance and great strength, his personality is remarkably kindhearted and gentle.
Hinahoho begins his personal journey in a state of insecurity. At the age of twenty-one, he had not yet completed the Imuchakk coming-of-age ceremony: the solo defeat of a massive sea creature known as the Rampaging Unicorn. Because of this failure, he had not received his adult name and was known only as a nameless youth, with his younger sister, Pipirika, often scolding him for his perceived cowardice. His life changes forever when he is blown onto the ship of the young adventurer, Sinbad. Moved by Sinbad's determination and wisdom, Hinahoho accepts help to finally defeat the Rampaging Unicorn, an act that allows him to hold his head high and receive the warrior name Hinahoho at the village festival.
This event, however, only plants the seeds of his true growth. Feeling that he did not truly earn his name on his own, Hinahoho makes a bold decision to enter the Dungeon of Valefor alone to prove his worth. During this harrowing trial, he undergoes a profound personal awakening. Shedding his timid persona, he unleashes the fierce power of an Imuchakk warrior to protect his new friends and successfully conquers the dungeon alongside Sinbad. This experience cements his loyalty, and he chooses to leave his village to follow Sinbad on his journey to create a new country. His primary motivations are deeply rooted in family and a desire for self-respect; he wants to be a provider and protector, and he seeks to build a world where nations can respect each other's sovereignty, a dream he shares with Sinbad.
In the story, Hinahoho serves as one of the core members of Sinbad's growing faction. He is a founding general and later becomes one of the Eight Generals of the Sindria Kingdom, serving as the kingdom's strongest spear and a pillar of its military might. His role is often that of the reliable, elder brother figure among the group, offering a calm and grounded perspective. Alongside his duties, he marries Rurumu, the daughter of an Imuchakk chieftain, who was considered the most beautiful woman in their tribe. Together, they have several children, and Hinahoho’s devotion to them is his most defining trait; his hobbies include taking care of children, and he spends his holidays with his family. Tragedy strikes during the invasion of Parthevia, where he witnesses the gruesome death of his wife, Rurumu. This event drives him into a rage, causing him to temporarily awaken a darker power to annihilate the enemy forces, and he receives a large scar on his cheek in the battle. As a widower, he raises his four children, though he admits to struggling with his daughter's rebellious teenage phase.
Hinahoho's notable abilities are tied to his Imuchakk physiology. He is an unparalleled swimmer, often cited as the best in Sindria, and is naturally resistant to freezing temperatures, though he is notably weak against heat. As a Household Vessel user of Sinbad's Djinn, Valefor, he wields the spear Galfor Roromus, which can transform into a giant wolf made of ice to attack his enemies. His most powerful technique as an Imuchakk warrior is the Number One Harpoon, a devastating beam of Magoi energy fired from his unicorn horn. Over the course of the series, Hinahoho develops from a timid, nameless outcast into a confident warrior, a loving father, and a foundational leader of one of the world's great nations, embodying the strength that comes from protecting others.
