TV-Series
Description
Lawless, also known by the contract name Hyde, is the Servamp of Greed, representing the sin of greed among the seven vampire progenitors in the series. He is the fifth youngest of the Servamps and forms a contract with the famous pianist Licht Jekylland Todoroki. Lawless appears as a young man around 176 centimeters tall with a flamboyant and theatrical demeanor. He frequently quotes Shakespeare and often taunts others by weaving dramatic verse into his speech. His animal form, which he reverts to when exposed to sunlight, is a small hedgehog with black spikes and three distinctive white spikes; he retains the ability to speak in this form.

Lawless’s background is deeply rooted in tragedy. In the distant past, he served a noble princess named Ophelia. At a time when the world considered him a disgusting monster, Ophelia alone accepted his existence as a vampire. This acceptance caused Lawless to develop genuine feelings for her, and he vowed to protect her no matter what. However, a conflict broke out in her kingdom, and to secure peace, Ophelia agreed to marry a prince from another land. As the situation worsened, she ultimately chose to surrender herself to be executed as payment for peace. Lawless attempted to prevent her death, but his inability to defy her final wishes meant he could only watch as the woman he loved was killed. This traumatic event shattered his mental state, giving rise to an aggressive, sadistic side that he struggled to control. After Ophelia’s death, he lost all true motivation for living and began to chase only the shadow of her desire.

Personality-wise, Lawless is self-centered, highly emotional, and prone to extreme mood swings. He presents himself as energetic, obnoxious, and fond of making fun of others, often introducing himself and those around him in exaggerated, theatrical ways. Beneath this flippant exterior, he longs for someone to love him but refuses to face that need. His habit of killing his previous Eves once he grew bored of them was a way of avoiding emotional connection, protecting himself from further loss. He has little faith in the world and often brings his Eves down to prove his own cynical beliefs. Despite his harsh tendencies, he can be a positive presence when not overwhelmed by his darker impulses, though his mental instability remains a significant flaw.

His motivations are largely driven by his unresolved grief for Ophelia. He craves love and acceptance but simultaneously rejects it out of fear of being hurt again. This internal conflict leads him to behave recklessly and destructively. Over the course of the story, his relationship with his current Eve, Licht, becomes a turning point. Licht’s unyielding nature and his own struggles force Lawless to confront his past and begin to heal, even if slowly. The dynamic between them is antagonistic at first, symbolized by their contract names—Hyde and Jekylland—echoing the classic Jekyll and Hyde duality. Through their bond, Lawless starts to open up and find new purpose beyond repeating his old patterns.

In terms of abilities, Lawless possesses the standard Servamp traits: enhanced strength and tactical thinking (both rated moderately), immortality, and rapid regeneration. His contract item is a necklace. He is capable of switching between human and hedgehog forms at will, though he defaults to the hedgehog form in sunlight. Even as a hedgehog, he can speak and interact. He also has considerable acting ability, which he uses to manipulate and entertain. His fighting style often combines theatrical flair with genuine combat prowess, though his mental instability—rated very low—can hinder his effectiveness.

Key relationships include Ophelia, whose tragic death defines his entire worldview; Licht Jekylland Todoroki, his current Eve and the person who challenges him to change; and the other Servamps, especially Sleepy Ash (the Servamp of Sloth), who was the tiebreaker in a past vote that decided to spare humanity after Ophelia’s death. Lawless’s development centers on learning to trust again and finding meaning beyond the shadow of his lost love. He remains a volatile but ultimately redeemable figure within the larger conflict against Tsubaki, the rogue eighth Servamp.
