Description
Judal is a Magi, a magician chosen by the Rukh, who serves as the primary representative of the Kou Empire. His origins are marked by tragedy. Born in a poor village on the far eastern plains, he was selected by the Rukh immediately after his birth. His entire family and everyone in his village were killed by the organization Al-Thamen, which then took the infant Judal and raised him to be their tool. He was brought to the Kou Empire shortly after its founding and installed as its Oracle and High Priest, essentially being groomed from infancy to serve the empire's ambitions.
Personality-wise, Judal is defined by his arrogance, cruelty, and a pronounced childishness. He is immensely powerful and is fully aware of it, which fuels his condescending and disrespectful attitude toward nearly everyone, including other Magi. He acts on his own whims and desires, showing little regard for orders, advice, or the well-being of innocent bystanders. He has a deep-seated love for conflict and war, believing that a king's most essential quality is raw power. Despite his traumatic past, he often claims not to be bothered by it, insisting he only does what he pleases. However, this is a complex facade; he is also a skilled actor who has been known to manipulate others' emotions, such as when he feigned vulnerability in front of Sinbad only to mock him for believing it. Underneath this performance lies genuine rage and a deep-seated grudge against Al-Thamen and Gyokuen Ren for robbing him of a normal life.
Judal's primary motivation is the pursuit of his own excitement and satisfaction, often found through warfare and exercising his power. Having been denied freedom of choice in his childhood, he now lives entirely by his own whims. In the story, he acts as a major antagonist and a direct rival to the protagonist, Aladdin. As the Kou Empire's war-mongering神官 (priest), he actively works to expand their influence through violent means, often coming into direct conflict with Sinbad's Kingdom of Sindria. He is responsible for summoning numerous dungeons to bolster the empire's forces and has personally declared war on his enemies on multiple occasions.
His relationships are initially defined by his role in the Kou Empire, where he is allied with figures like the princess Kougyoku Ren, whom he has known since her childhood. However, his most significant relationship forms with Hakuryuu Ren. Judal eventually selects Hakuryuu as his king, forming a powerful alliance with him to overthrow the empire's leadership. He aids Hakuryuu in conquering a dungeon and later in the deadly battle against Gyokuen Ren. This partnership marks a major shift in his role, from an agent of the empire's status quo to a revolutionary figure seeking to tear it down. He also has a contentious rivalry with Sinbad, whom he both respects for his power and desires to conquer in battle. His relationship with Aladdin is one of direct opposition; as fellow Magi, they are natural rivals, and Judal's control over black Rukh stands in stark contrast to Aladdin's connection with white Rukh.
Judal's character undergoes subtle but important development. While he initially appears as a purely hedonistic agent of chaos and destruction, his alliance with Hakuryuu reveals a capacity for loyalty and a shared goal driven by personal grievance. His confrontation with Gyokuen Ren exposes the deep-seated hatred he carries for his manipulators, showing that his past affects him more than he lets on. After being defeated by Aladdin and transported to a distant land, he is forced to cooperate with his former enemy, Alibaba, leading to a further, though grudging, evolution in his perspective.
As a Magi, Judal possesses immense magical power, including the ability to summon and manipulate dungeons. Unlike most Magi, he has fallen into depravity, meaning he can control the black Rukh born from negative human emotions. He specializes in ice magic, but his repertoire is vast, including spells for lightning, teleportation, defensive barriers, and powerful offensive barrages like ice spear rain. As a Magi, he can draw an unlimited supply of magical energy (Magoi) directly from the surrounding Rukh, making him an exceptionally formidable and versatile combatant. He is also physically fit, having developed his abdominal muscles on a whim after hearing it would make him popular.
