Description
Matal Mogamett is the chancellor of Magnostadt Academy and the de facto leader of the nation of Magnostadt. He is an elderly man with long white hair, purple eyes, wrinkles, liver spots, a braided mustache, and a long beard, typically dressed in a black wizard hat and a black robe. He was responsible for leading the rebellion of Magnostadt against the Mustashim Kingdom, establishing a country where magicians could live free from oppression. At 98 years old, he stands 1.70 meters tall and is known for his commanding presence.

Mogamett is a man of contradictions. He is loving and caring toward the students of his academy, treating them with warmth and fatherly affection, often viewing them as his own children. However, he harbors an intense and deep-seated hatred for non-magicians, whom he derisively calls gois. This prejudice stems from his past: he witnessed the exploitation and persecution of magicians and lost his wife and daughter to non-magic users. The trauma turned him into a deeply prejudiced individual who is quick to rage when his people or his nation are threatened, as seen when he reacted violently to threats from the Kou Empire.

His primary motivation is to protect magicians and ensure their safety and prosperity. He seeks to create a utopia for mages, free from the oppression of non-magicians. This goal drives him to extreme actions, including waging war against nations that threaten Magnostadt and oppressing non-magicians in turn, mirroring the very injustice he sought to escape. In the story of Magi: The Kingdom of Magic, Mogamett serves as a major antagonist. He opposes the intervention of outside forces, particularly the Kou Empire and the Reim Empire, and his actions trigger conflicts with protagonists such as Aladdin and Alibaba. His role highlights the cycle of hatred and the difficulty of breaking free from generational trauma.

Key relationships shape his character. He is the adoptive father of Yamuraiha, a former student of the academy, and he deeply cares for her, though their relationship becomes strained as she questions his methods. He has a fatherly bond with his students, whom he protects fiercely. Conversely, he views non-magician characters with contempt and is openly hostile toward Kouha Ren of the Kou Empire, who threatens his nation. His interactions with Aladdin, who embodies empathy and coexistence, begin to challenge his rigid worldview. Over the course of the series, Mogamett experiences limited development: he starts to realize that his hatred has led him down a destructive path, though his core beliefs remain entrenched and he does not fully abandon his prejudice.

As a mage, Mogamett possesses immense magical skill befitting the chancellor of Magnostadt. He is capable of casting powerful offensive and defensive spells, creating massive barriers, and unleashing energy attacks that can level entire areas. He is also a knowledgeable scholar of magical theory and an able administrator, having built the academy from the ground up. In combat, he demonstrates large-scale manipulation of magical forces, drawing on centuries of experience and the resources of the academy to defend his people.
