Description
Bishamon, also known as Bishamonten, is a prominent deity in the series, recognized as a formidable and powerful God of War and one of the Seven Gods of Fortune. She is depicted as a beautiful and slender goddess with a tall stature, appearing to be in her early twenties. Her appearance is characterized by extremely long blonde hair that reaches her feet and distinctive purple eyes with slit-like pupils. Her combat attire typically consists of a short grey skirt, a matching jacket, a black hat, and long black boots.

In terms of personality, Bishamon is a complex figure who demonstrates considerable generosity and kindness towards her shinki, the spirits that serve as her divine weapons. She willingly accepts any wandering or troubled spirit into her family, regardless of their immediate usefulness. However, her past failures have profoundly shaped her behavior. Haunted by the loss of her previous shinki family, she has deliberately chosen to maintain a distance from her current regalia, presenting herself as a fierce and stern deity to prevent them from worrying about her. Ironically, this approach often leads to her shinki feeling more insecure and lonely. She is also portrayed as someone who refuses to give up, pushing herself past her limits to accomplish her goals, and she firmly believes in her own decisions.

Her primary motivation for much of the story is a deep-seated grudge against the god Yato, whom she blames for the annihilation of her previous shinki family, the Ma clan. This drive for revenge becomes a central focus, leading her to become fixated on destroying everything Yato holds dear. This desire is so strong that she nearly disowns her most trusted shinki, Kazuma, upon discovering his secret connection to Yato. Her role in the story is initially that of an antagonist, a powerful rival whose conflict with Yato drives a major story arc. As a goddess of war and battle with a large following in the human world, she is often regarded as the most powerful among war deities, typically wielding eight combat-ready shinki at once.

Key relationships are central to her character. Her bond with her shinki is both her greatest strength and her most critical vulnerability. She treats them as family, but her guilt and inability to save them in the past lead to a dysfunctional dynamic where her regalia hide their pain and blight to avoid burdening her. The most significant of these relationships is with Kazuma, her exemplar and a blessed vessel. His loyalty to her is absolute, as she saved him from becoming a phantom, and he serves as her strategic guide. In a desperate act to save her from being corrupted by her own shinki, Kazuma secretly pleaded with Yato to kill the Ma clan, an act that created the very misunderstanding fueling her vengeance. Another notable relationship is with her shinki Kugaha, a doctor who betrays her, believing her kindness makes her weak and attempting to force her reincarnation to create an ideal warrior god in her place.

Bishamon undergoes significant development over the course of the narrative. After learning the true circumstances behind the death of the Ma clan, including the fact that they had become corrupted and that Yato's act was a mercy killing to save her life, she gradually relinquishes her desire for vengeance. This revelation forces her to confront her own toxic emotional patterns and her failure to properly care for her family. Her development culminates in her accepting Yato as an ally and becoming a more responsible leader. She learns from her mistakes, notably deciding to stop taking on new shinki in order to focus on having more personal, attentive relationships with the members of her existing household.

As a deity, Bishamon possesses notable abilities befitting the God of War. Her immense power is derived from her large number of followers among humans and her many shinki. She is capable of wielding multiple shinki simultaneously in battle, each of which transforms into a unique weapon or piece of armor, ranging from a lion mount and a whip to a great sword and hand pistols. Her combat prowess is such that she is considered a peerless warrior among the gods. She also demonstrates the ability to name and claim wandering spirits as her own shinki, incorporating them into her regalia family.
