Description
Masayoshi Hazama is a nineteen-year-old male model who lives a double life as the costumed superhero Samurai Flamenco. His deep-seated passion for tokusatsu hero shows began in childhood, fueled by his grandfather, who originally conceived the Samurai Flamenco project and designed the hero suit. Despite having no superpowers, special training, or advanced technology, Hazama wholeheartedly decides to become a real-life hero and fight crime in the name of justice.

Hazama’s personality is defined by unwavering idealism, a strong sense of justice, and a sincere kind-heartedness. He is naive and often stubborn, even reprimanding people for minor infractions like littering or jaywalking. In his daily life he can be shy and reserved, but once he dons the costume he becomes resolute and determined. His core motivation is a childhood dream of being a hero who never gives up, never hides, and never accepts evil.

In the story, Hazama begins as a local vigilante whose early efforts are clumsy and ineffective. His actions catch the attention of police officer Hidenori Gotou, who discovers his secret identity and becomes his closest ally. The scale of Hazama’s role rapidly escalates from fighting petty criminals to confronting the monstrous army of the evil organization Torture, led by King Torture. Later, he is recruited into the superhero team Samurai Sentai Flamenger, a group formed by veteran actor Joji Kaname, and becomes its leader under the name Flamen Red. Together they face extraterrestrial threats from the organization From Beyond.

Key relationships include his friendship with Gotou, who provides practical support and emotional grounding. Joji Kaname acts as a mentor, teaching him the spirit of heroism and showmanship. He also works alongside idol Mari Maya and her fellow Flamenco Girls, though their methods often clash with his no-harm philosophy. King Torture is his primary antagonist, viewing Hazama as a fated counterpart.

Throughout the series, Hazama undergoes significant development. He evolves from an amateur vigilante into a globally recognized symbol of justice, grappling with the harsh realities of violence, loss, and the blurred line between fantasy and reality. His journey forces him to reconcile his idealistic vision of heroism with the complex, often absurd world he inhabits. Ultimately, he learns to balance his superhero persona with his personal identity.

Hazama’s abilities stem from his sheer determination and his hero suit. He initially relies on his physical fitness and improvisation, but later receives unconventional weapons from scientist Jun Harazuka, such as the Samurai Ink Eraser and Samurai Retractable Pen. As a leader of the Flamengers, he gains a team and enhanced combat coordination. His greatest asset, however, remains his unshakable conviction and his refusal to abandon his code of justice, even when faced with overwhelming odds.
