Description
Manabu Kuchiki is introduced in the second volume of the manga and becomes a full member of the Genshiken club alongside Chika Ogiue in the fourth volume, after being expelled from the university’s Anime Club. He had previously belonged to the Anime Society. In the narrative of the second generation, he continues to appear as a supporting character, often serving as a source of comedic relief. He is a loud, abrasive individual with an obnoxious style of speech and no hesitation about engaging in indecent or improper behavior, such as spying on female students. Because of this, he is frequently disliked and ostracized by other club members, particularly the female members. Despite his grating exterior, he is ultimately good-hearted and has proven helpful on several occasions. He prefers to be called by the nickname Kuchi and enjoys when others use it. He is also unashamed to participate in cosplay, a hobby he embraces openly. Kuchiki is the second-best fighting game player in the club, trailing only Makoto Kousaka in skill. On two separate occasions he expects to be elected the next president of Genshiken, but he is passed over first by Kanako Ohno and later by Ogiue. His role in the story is primarily that of a background comedic figure, often used as a trigger for slapstick and off‑color jokes. In terms of development, it is revealed later that he does not need to search for employment after graduation because his family connections have practically guaranteed him a position at a local bank. He has short black hair and gray eyes, and is described as tall and skinny. His notable abilities include his fighting game prowess and his willingness to engage in any otaku activity, including karaoke and cosplay.
