Description
Gaelio Bauduin is a central figure from the noble Bauduin family, one of the Seven Stars, the highest-ranking families within the Earth sphere's governing military organization, Gjallarhorn. As the heir to the Bauduin name, he holds significant influence and is portrayed as an officer with a relaxed, easygoing, and talkative demeanor. He often tries to be humorous and is generally more impulsive and irritable than his colleague and close friend, McGillis Fareed, not always concerning himself with being overly serious or professional.

Despite his privileged upbringing, Gaelio possesses a strong sense of justice and a genuine desire to reform the corrupt system of Gjallarhorn from within. He is highly intelligent and capable of critical thinking when working as an inspector, able to piece together puzzles and not easily fooled. However, his perspective is also shaped by the aristocracy he was born into, leading to an initial arrogance and a stated aversion to human body modifications, such as the Alaya-Vijnana system used by Mars-born pilots, which he declares makes them "not human".

His primary motivation shifts dramatically over the course of his story. Initially, he is driven by loyalty to his friend McGillis and a shared, if somewhat naive, goal to better Gjallarhorn. He is also protective of his younger sister, Almiria Bauduin, who is betrothed to McGillis, and he teases her affectionately while clearly caring for her well-being. After a devastating betrayal by McGillis, who seemingly kills him to further his own ambitions, Gaelio's motivation narrows to revenge. He survives his apparent death, adopts the masked identity of Vidar—named after the Norse god of vengeance—and joins the Arianrhod Fleet under Rustal Elion to oppose his former friend.

In the story, Gaelio begins as an inspector sent to Mars alongside McGillis, where his first confrontation with Tekkadan's pilot Mikazuki Augus leaves a lasting impression of distaste. His role evolves from a well-meaning but privileged officer to a tragic figure used as a pawn, and finally to a vengeful survivor. Key to his journey are his relationships. His bond with McGillis Fareed is the most crucial; they are childhood friends and future brothers-in-law, and Gaelio serves as his right-hand man, only to be utterly shattered by McGillis's betrayal. He develops a genuine, if initially awkward, camaraderie with his subordinate Ein Dalton, whose fierce loyalty and eventual sacrifice profoundly affect Gaelio. In contrast, his relationship with Mikazuki is defined by mutual hostility, with Gaelio harboring a grudge against the pilot who embarrassed him in their first encounter and later killed his friend, Carta Issue.

Gaelio undergoes a profound development. He starts as a confident and somewhat arrogant noble, but after being betrayed and left for dead, he becomes much more taciturn, cautious, and serious, his personality hardened by pain and a singular focus on revenge. His final confrontation with McGillis reveals the depth of his emotional injury; despite his rage, he is brought to tears and cannot bear to hear McGillis call him a true friend, as it would force him to forgive his betrayer.

In terms of abilities, Gaelio is an excellent and highly skilled mobile suit pilot. While he can be impulsive in battle, rushing his attacks, he excels in high-speed maneuvering and hit-and-run tactics, typically wielding a large assault lance. He pilots several iconic suits, starting with a customized Schwalbe Graze, then the ancient Gundam Kimaris, which is later upgraded to the Kimaris Trooper. After his return as Vidar, he pilots the Gundam Vidar, a heavily modified version of the Kimaris equipped with a third Ahab reactor and a unique combat system. This system, the Alaya-Vijnana Type E, allows him to achieve reaction speeds comparable to the standard Alaya-Vijnana by using the preserved brain of his fallen comrade Ein Dalton as a proxy, granting him immense combat prowess without the risk of physical surgery.
