Masaya Matsukaze
Description
Masaya Matsukaze is a Japanese voice actor and actor affiliated with the agency Aoni Production. He was born on September 9, 1976, in Fukushima Prefecture. His career in the entertainment industry began in 1997, not in voice acting, but with a live-action role in the Super Sentai series Denji Sentai Megaranger, where he played Shun Namiki, also known as Mega Blue. His transition into voice acting was significantly influenced by his work on the Sega video game series Shenmue, for which he provided both the voice and motion capture for the protagonist, Ryo Hazuki. This role is considered his entry point into the voice acting profession.
Throughout his extensive career, Matsukaze has built a substantial portfolio of roles across anime, video games, and dubbed content. Among his most well-known and enduring roles are Ren Ichimoku (also known as One-eyed Ren) in the Hell Girl series, the stoic Kyoya Ootori in Ouran High School Host Club, and the devoted Teru Mikami in Death Note. He also gained recognition for his portrayal of Illumi Zoldyck in the 2011 adaptation of Hunter × Hunter and Galileo Galieo (also known as Gaelio Bauduin) in Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans.
In addition to these signature roles, his filmography demonstrates a wide range, frequently taking on characters with cool, intelligent, or antagonistic traits. Examples include the ambitious Teitoku Kakine in A Certain Scientific Railgun T and A Certain Magical Index III, the privileged Metori Saiko in The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., and the loyal Colt Grice in Attack on Titan The Final Season. He also voiced Suiryū in One Punch Man, Ryo Hazuki in Shenmue the Animation, and Tetsu in Heaven's Memo Pad.
Matsukaze has had recurring collaborations with several fellow voice actors across different projects. Frequently appearing alongside him are actors such as Kawasumi Ayako, Ueda Yuuji, and Nakahara Mai.
His career continues to be active in recent years, with roles in series such as Love All Play, Shinobi no Ittoki, and the BUILD-DIVIDE anime adaptations. He is also set to voice the character Fracture in the third season of the Fire Force anime, which began airing in April 2025.
