Description
Motoki Haruna is the left-handed ace pitcher for Musashino High School's baseball team, later becoming its captain. In middle school, he formed a battery with Takaya Abe, the only catcher willing and able to handle Haruna's high-velocity fastballs despite his lack of control, which frequently bruised Abe. An irresponsible coach overused Haruna then, causing torn knee cartilage requiring rehabilitation. This injury established his strict adherence to an 80-pitch limit per game, prioritizing his long-term goal of reaching the major leagues over immediate team needs. After quitting his middle school team, he joined a little seniors league, reconnecting with Abe there.

Haruna's middle school persona appeared arrogant due to his inflexible pitch limit; he would leave the mound mid-game upon reaching his count, regardless of the situation, straining his relationship with Abe, who criticized his principles. Initially in high school, Haruna maintained these restrictions, often playing right field for the first three innings before pitching, with teammate Kyōhei Akimaru monitoring his pitch count. A significant shift occurred during a game against ARC Academy, where Haruna pitched the entire game, deliberately ignoring Akimaru's count updates and surpassing his self-imposed limit, demonstrating a new commitment to the team over individual goals. He also showed empathy and leadership, supporting teammate Naoto Kaguyama when Kaguyama considered quitting the team, drawing on his own past experiences.

Haruna harbors a secret one-sided romantic interest in the team manager, Miyashita, though she is in a relationship with the former captain, Ookawa; Kaguyama discovered this and teased him about it. Haruna's relationships with his Musashino teammates, initially strained by his pitching limitations, improved as the team recognized his dedication to baseball. He is described as hardworking and trains rigorously. Physically, he is noted as handsome with near shoulder-length bluish-black hair, brown eyes, and a height of 1.82 meters.

Reconciliation with Abe happened after the ARC Academy game; Haruna apologized for his past behavior, expressing gratitude that Abe's presence as his practice partner helped him overcome his difficult personality within a year. Haruna also commented on peer Ren Mihashi's fastball.
